What Makes It Awesome
Apparently, one of the oldest places serving dosas in the city, Pragati Tiffin Center is a roadside stall. Opening at 6.30 am, we've never seen this place less crowded. The surrounding college goers, families, couples and kids often gather here for their meals. This place has a cash counter where you place your order, collect your token and two stalls (one for dosa and uttapam and the other for idlis). We got ourself a Butter Paneer Masala Dosa (INR 40) and a plate of idli (INR 20) and it took only a few minutes for the vendor to make them. The dosa comes with a stuffing of aloo, onion, cheese, and paneer. It is served on a banana leaf with chutney and podi on the side and is crispy, but the idli was a clear winner. Served four per plate, these idlis are the softest we've had. The kind that melts in your mouth. Although we requested that our idlis be drowned in sambar, you can get them with coconut chutney, or a combo of both as well. We've no shame in admitting that we quite literally devoured them.
What Could Be Better
The place is not sparkling clean, in fact, not even close. But, they do maintain hygiene and the food is pocket-friendly. There is no seating, and you are expected to take away or have your food while standing here.
