A new addition to Hyderabad’s must-visit places, the Statue of Equality is much more than what you already know about it—a humongous statue. While that is what meets the eye, there is more to know about its purpose and the man personified in the statue.

The Statue of Equality is a 216-foot-tall golden statue that pays respect to Bhakti Saint Sri Ramanujacharya. It is one of the world’s tallest metallic statutes moulded in a sitting position. This also makes it one of the most Insta-worthy places in Hyderabad, which is absolutely packed during the weekends.

Sri Ramanujacharya is a popular philosopher from the 11th century. He was known for his comprehensive writings on the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads, and the Brahma Sutras. He is also the founder of the Sri Vaishnavism movement, which promoted spiritual enlightenment through devotion. This place is easily one of the best ones to come to if you're all about finding inner peace.

History

Opened in 2022, the motive behind building the Statue of Equality was to promote the ethos of equality among all castes. Back in the day, temples were the places that held the administrative control of a region, but they were also controlled by one caste. Ramanujan encouraged such administrative templates to allot 50% of tasks to people from other castes as well. That’s the reason there was no restriction on people entering the temple. However, during the British era, the sentiment of casteism increased due to their divide-and-rule tactic. That’s exactly why this statue was built —to serve as a reminder of equality among people.

Things To Do At Statue Of Equality

To take a deep dive into the statue’s significance, take a guided tour. You can also visit the nearby temple dedicated to Ramanujacharya Swamy and partake in the daily prayers. You can also simply meditate and find your calm.

They also have Leela Jala Neerajanam, which is a dancing water with a laser show. The dynamic fountain show takes place at 5:30 PM on weekdays and 5:30 PM and 8 PM on weekends. The laser show takes place at 7 PM and 8 PM on weekdays and 7 PM and 8:45 PM on weekends.

Pro Tip

Keep in mind that there’s a highly traditional dress code to visit this place. The Statue of Equality is also a huge space; It will take you a minimum of half a day to cover all the attractions, and it will obviously take more on crowded days.
