The Nilah Collective was set up with the aim to support domestic workers who found themselves without work during the pandemic. The founder, Shwetha Tirumanisetti, wanted to battle the dilution of Indian artforms, where most young customers today are unable to differentiate between authentic and inauthentic handmade products in India.
The Nilah Collective also addresses the disconnect artisans face today from the market, with the same designs and products, like sarees or home linens being made for generations. We also love that they use a lot of fabric waste generated by the fashion and textile industry to make their collections.
