Bhongir Fort

This fort is an important historic site, approximately 150 kms from Hyderabad. Built by the Kakatiya empire, this fort is elevated 800 meters above sea level and takes an interesting shape. Remember the blue and black/gold and white dress fiasco? There's something similar going on with the elephant or tortoise debate. The rocky steps make for another great beginner-friendly trek but with a little challenge – the scorching heat. It's a quick getaway where you can explore the ruins and take in the view. And if you're in mood for more adventure, you can also try rappelling, guided by experts.

Ananthagiri Hills

A trek to Ananthagiri Hills is a complete weekender in itself if you choose to stay at any of the nearby resorts. Nestled in the greens of Vikarabad, you will be in awe of the deccan plateau. If that's not enough, make way to the sunflower gardens after your adventure to get those clicks. There are two types of treks here. The first trail starts from Sri Anantha Padmanabhaswamy Temple and the other starts from half a kilometer further. On the way, spot the point where the Musi river originates.

Chincholi Forest

If you're looking for medium-level trek, head to this forest near Gulbarga. Drive down 140 kms from Hyderabad and make an overnight halt to witness the beauty of the place during sunrise. Once you reach the top, you will get to see the birds eye view of the nearby Chandrampalli village, straight of a movie set. The entire area is secluded and clean with different kind of birds chirping around. So don't forget to pack your binoculars.

Koilsagar Dam

If you want a challenging trek, crossing streams and navigating on beaten steps, head to Kolisagar Fort near Mahabubnagar, 150 kms from the city. The dam is approximately 10 kms from the fort and the location makes for a real-world fantasy shot with the Nizam-era ruins, boulders and all the things that call for an off-beaten vibe. But beware, it's going to be sunny so slather up on sunscreen and better yet, plan a winter trek.

Narsapur Forest

A hidden gem located in the Medak district, trekking at Narsapur Forest means exploring a lush green trail, big rock formations and finding yourself next to a secluded pond. Roughly 50 km from Hyderabad, escape from the city life with your gang and enjoy an intermediate level trail. As you admire the canopies and take in the sights that will calm your mind, spot exotic birds, fluttering butterflies and mischievous monkeys doing their own thing. But watch out, don't let the natural beauty distract you from the trail as it's very easy to lose your way. We recommend downloading offline map of this area as the cell reception is a bit patchy.

Khilla Ghanpur

A visit to this fort in Mahbubnagar is a complete package for adventure junkies. Located 113 km from Hyderabad, in about two and half hours, you'll arrive at Khilla Ghanpur, a 13th century fort built during the Kakatiya reign. Unleash your photography skills here and do up your insta feed as this fort is very well preserved for a monument that has witnessed many wars (the actual cannons are still in place, you guys). There are many explored caves for a little Indiana Jones feel and if you're exhausted after all the sightseeing, the grand view of Ghanpur lake is your reward. Sounds like a good trek? Double up on those water bottles and get going.
