Our first thoughts when we stumbled upon Vanaras — chic, comfort, and timeless. Founded by Vandana Bhandare, Vanaras is an organic clothing label that champions slow-fashion and a sustainable lifestyle. After graduating from Digital Arts & Animation, Vandana got a diploma in Fashion Arts & Design. But her first brush with fabric and design began in childhood when her father, who runs a Pure Silk Saree Manufacturing Unit, taught her about the art of dyeing, the mechanism of looms, weaving structure, design, etc. Soon, Vandana floated Vanaras — a label that alludes to the essence of a forest. For now, the label crafts its clothing using GOTS Certified Organic cotton, but in the future, they might explore OEKOTEX Linen, certified bamboo fabric, etc.
Drawing inspiration from situations and experiences, Vanaras's first collection — Forest Moon was stirred after a camping trip, with the green signified by the forest, and the grey by the Moon. One look at the collection and you know silhouettes and classic cuts are in. We're already eyeing Floresta (a figure-hugging mermaid dress), Mond (an A-line dress with gathered sleeves at the wrist).
Vanaras also offers Custom Specials where you can place an order for an outfit that's unavailable in your size. Plus, if you love a certain piece but prefer it in a different colour, Vanaras can craft it for you, as long as they have the fabric. Easy-peasy! Soon, the label will venture into bringing vintage styles and prints into play which is something to look forward to. Especially, if you're a minimalist who appreciates a bit of fun in your clothing!
The price range across the label is INR 2,500 upwards. And oh, did we tell you the clothing line is completely biodegradable?
