Our beloved burger and fries chain – McDonald’s is shutting down its 169 outlets across North and East India owing to financial and legal differences between the US franchise and Vikram Bakshi’s Connaught Plaza Restaurants Ltd {CPRL}.
CPRL has been in an agreement with McDonald’s for 22-years, running its outlets in the Northern and Eastern belts but it will now lose all branding and marketing rights for the same. This move has lead to the shutting down of 43 McDonald’s outlets in Delhi and will affect more than 6,500 jobs in India {at least temporarily}.
Reportedly, McDonald’s India is also on the lookout for a new licensee partner to resume operations and serve the comfort food we’ve all grown up eating.
We’re bummed that now Pizza McPuff, McChicken and the best fries ever seem like a distant dream and are hoping {and praying} that this is only a temporary move.
