Road accidents are a sad reality in Delhi and for once we have the government coming together with Delhi Street Art to do something about it. According to thisarticle in the Hindustan Times, NDMC has painted, at central Delhi’s Rajaji Marg, a beautiful 3D zebra crossing that slows down cars and bikes to almost 30 kmph.

While it is quite amusing to pedestrians and commuters, it has also brought about a keen awareness of the problem at hand. NDMC Chairperson Naresh Kumar told HT, “We did not know how people would respond to such 3D pedestrian ways, but the response is overwhelming. Our aim is to make the NDMC area a people-friendly space and such measures will ensure safety for pedestrians as well as drivers.”

The crossing looks like elevated blocks in the middle of the road and you can even see some people hopping through the blocks created by Delhi Street Art. Five more locations have been shortlisted for the same, so we look forward to less speeding and more art.
