The mirror helps the most. Also, thinking about performing on stage gives me goose bumps and also keeps me motivated and focused.

Do not compare yourself to anyone, be your own competition instead. Everybody has a different body type and different goals. There’s always going to be someone you find fitter, thinner or sexier than yourself. Focus on your own body and goals and try to outdo yourself.

Understand your body type and work towards your goals accordingly. This is very important, especially for beginners. Whether you’re overweight or underweight, you have to exercise and eat according to your goal. The same training and nutrition plan will not work for everyone.

What keeps you motivated?

My journey motivates me. When I look back and see how far I have come, it energises me like nothing else. Every time I want to give up I think about why I started and how hard I have worked to get here today.

Keep yourself hydrated at all times. Incorporate some sort of physical activity in your routine. Go for a walk, go cycling with your kids, play a sport, take the stairs, dance. Do what you like, but just move!

What keeps you motivated?

My family is my biggest motivation. I am 40-years-old and I’m not getting any younger. I want to be fit and healthy so that I can spend quality time with my family, specially my kids.

Two fitness tips you’d like to share.

Using resistance bands is a great way get some assistance in functional exercises such as chin ups. As your strength increases, simply reduce the amount of assistance by choosing a band with less tension.

Vary your feet placement when training legs/glutes {hips}. Keep your toes facing slightly outwards instead of forward, widen or narrow your stance. These will work exceptionally well with squats and deadlifts. You can also try one-leg repetitions. When lunging, try diagonal lunges and curtsy lunges.

What keeps you motivated?

I set goals that are super exciting. They make me jump out of bed each morning!
