REProduce Lado Sarai | Listening

REProduce Listening Room at Best College Art Sunday, 11th June 2017, 4-9 PM **Donor Passes available at the door at INR300** On Sunday, June 11th, New Delhi based music collective REProduce Artists will bring their Listening Room series back to Lado Sarai, but at a new venue - Best College Art. The gallery spans two floors, and is a sort of incubator of sorts for Art District - 13, Lado Sarai, New Delhi, allowing new and undiscovered talent to showcase and sell their visual work. As always, the series aims to fill a gap in the ever iterating and increasingly varied community of live music in India by showcasing talent that might not get heard in the more mainstream oriented venues. REProduce Listening Room focuses purely on the music – in a space where an audience can absorb sound on their own terms. This iteration of the series will showcase a focus on ten artists and three debuts - focusing mostly on talent from Delhi - presenting work that varies from live hip hop production, cinematic scores, disco, and treated electric guitar/homemade modular synth meditations. Babloo Babylon (New Delhi, India) I don’t know this persons real name. I heard his music on the internet, and I liked it, and then at one of the REProduce Bedlam bimonthlies we used to do someone came up to me and asked me if we were selling beer, which we weren’t so then he kinda bummed out. Then I think PILLS told that he was that dude, and he didn’t look anything like what I thought he would. But you know, that doesn’t mean anything anyway. I mean he probably told me his name or whatever but I’m hopeless with that stuff. Anyway I think this is the first time he’s going to do the thing live, been a long time coming. Astral Doormen (New Delhi/Patiala, India) Last LR was the first time I saw a maze’s homemade modular synth rig, and of course, the first time I heard it as well. I know nothing about these things really but I remember him saying something about 24 volts. I do know that he made this from scratch via a seemingly endless series of trips to Old Delhi to buy parts, and that the device is housed in an old suitcase with pieces of wood. Also, last LR was the second time Infinite Jar Space played, and I’ve had a number of conversations about that show. I think the first ten minutes just made people really uncomfortable, until he started to play Riverlost and then it got dark and it all made complete sense. The Monday after that LR, these two went back to Gill’s house and jammed, and I gather blew each others minds. Ergo, Astral Doormen. Worms’ Cottage (Bangalore, India) I think Rishabh is leaving Bangalore. Is he? Maybe I’ll ask him Sunday. I know he wants to move to Sikkim. I don’t think I know anyone that is as focused on moving to Sikkim as he is. That’s pretty cool. Also I met his brother in Pune, who also is his fraternal twin. That’s also pretty cool. Did you know that when he sings its basically the same voice as when he talks, just more rhythmically inclined? I bet his brother singing would present the same phenomena as well. I actually don't understand what "fraternal twin" means. SISTER (Leh, India) They didn’t play last time, I don’t want to talk about it. Hashback Hashish (New Delhi, India) Feels like it’s been a long time since I saw Ashish do his thing. I read some long Instagram post someone wrote about him yesterday, wasn’t sure what to make of it but I gather the person was moved by his performance at Stiff Kittens HQ. Or not. No idea. I’m just excited to see how much further he’s been able to push that TB-03 since last time mostly. Also, I finally saw him with stubble the other day. D80 (New Delhi, India) I actually had the pleasure of accidentally playing with Anubhav this weekend. I don’t remember looking up much from the DJM900 so not sure if anyone was listening or responding or whatever but what I can say is that I had a great time, and so did he. I like the "dub reggae" button or whatever it was called. He hasn’t played an LR solo in way too long and of course “I’m Hot For YOU” is an amazing track so maybe he’ll play that. Free Drone (New Delhi, India) Akhil writes, plays in HOIRONG, and does a bunch of stuff really, but I don’t think he’s ever played live as Free Drone before. I might be wrong. Once he suggested he wanted to do somehing when we were chatting in the smoking room at Bandstand and I said HELL YES and it’s taken this long to make it happen. I think it’s just him a guitar and a laptop. We've had Kamal do his thing once and now Akhil so I guess we are aspiring towards a deconstructed HOIRONG show spanning mutiple years. Little Brontosaurus (New Delhi, India) Dayus came to my house once and then I would see him repeatedly for weeks after and I would never remember meeting him because I am a shithead. I think the point where I finally committed his face to his name was when I was doing gate at an LR at Stiff Kittens HQ and we actually had a coherent conversation, probably about playing live cos that's usually when my mind hits record nowadays. Then I finally got to see him as frontman for Grammy Winning Effort after the last Bombay LR, and I recall him taking his mic into the crowd and I think into the bathroom, so the last thing I expected was for him to make the kind of music he does as Little Brontosaurus. He told me he’s going to run through his forthcoming EP for his set. He also described it as a score to a film, but the film doesn’t exist yet, but he’s already scripted it in his head, I guess.
