What Makes It Awesome

Many vegetarian travellers dread a trip to Shillong thinking that they will starve. So did I but recently I found out about these pure vegetarian restaurants-

1. Hotel Boulevard

This is a hotel property with a North Indian pure vegetarian restaurant. Hard to believe, isn't it? Well, it's perfect for a stay on a family vacation to Shillong. What's more, they have no onion/garlic options too. Plus, it's located in the city centre.

2. Cinnamon kitchen, Hotel Barbareek

A multi cuisine restaurant located in the less crowded part of the city. The best part about them is that they also do home/hotel delivery and take- away incase you don't plan to stay with them.

3. Madras cafe

One of these popular south Indian joints can be found in almost all Indian cities nowadays and Shillong is no exception.

4. Jiva veg

This is the most popular restaurant on the way to Shillong from Gauhati. It is the one stop every vegetarian tourist makes and that is why you will find it crowded at all times of the day. They serve a lot of options from momos and noodles to their special Kashmiri naan. Try their speciality- jiva biryani while you are there.

5. Zen cafe and coffee shop

Another veg cafe located on the way to Shillong. This one is just a few metres away from Jiva veg.

What's My Pro Tip?

Like their marketplaces, most of the restaurants close early at night. So make sure you place your order by 9-9:30pm.

Also you can always call these restaurants in case you have trouble finding them on the GPS. The phone numbers are available online.

Anything Else?

Shillong is a beautiful quaint hill town in Meghalaya and there is no reason a vegetarian should be deprived of the pleasure of experiencing it atleast once in their lifetime. They don't call it the 'Scotland of East' for nothing!
