The City of Djinns has a different genie visiting these days. Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium is hosting the Disney production of Aladdin in Delhi from Friday, July 6 to Sunday, July 29. We were fortunate enough to catch the spectacular show on its opening evening.
The costumes, the sets, and even the looks of the characters resemble the ones painted by artists for the animated film. The script too is in resonance with the cinematic version. However, to inculcate local flavour, the actors include lines about Delhi culture and Gurgaon traffic and that adds to the experience.
While India is opening up to Broadway-style theatre, it is still a treat to watch such extravagance sitting in the home country. We, therefore, welcome and recommend Disney’s Aladdin in Delhi.
