What Is It?

Khirkee Festival is a unique celebration of the cultural diversity that’s come to be synonymous with this neighbourhood. Starting Dec 14 and on till the 17th, it’s Khoj International Artists’ Association’s effort to foster the community feeling by way of organising a full-blown arts festival that’ll have a bit of food, shopping, music, theatre, exhibitions, sports, talks and more.

Who Is It For?

Interested in sampling authentic Afghani, Cameroonian or Bihari home food? They’ve got a food and handicrafts mela on the terrace where local residents and NGOs from the vicinity will put up stalls.

This, however, is just one of the cool things. Like we said, anyone who’s interested in arts and culture, or takes keen interest in intercultural relationships, will have a lot to look forward to.

Why Should I Go For It?

They are hosting an immensely long list of activities and it’s going to be an invaluable insight into the life of Khirkee by the way of experiencing its most exciting facets. Think a play produced by Aagaaz Trust with the children in the neighbourhood, a Khirkee music gig in the jamun park, an open studio exhibition displaying the works of a one-month long artists residency, and a lot more is lined up for these days. An interesting talk show to initiate a dialogue between Indian locals and African migrants is also a part of the schedule.

In fact, the whole area around Khoj, the jamun park and the Sai Baba temple will come to life.

Because Khoj stands for subverting deep-rooted gender-based stereotypes, there’s a pretty daring contest called ‘Miss Bahubali’ where women will armwrestle.

All this apart, you’ll see public art installations and enjoy shaayari and dastangoi as well. There are workshops in urban gardening and photography for those who’d like to engage in some DIY.

Anything Else?

Check the entire schedule here for it’s rather overwhelming for us to decide between the people library’s food edition and walking through painted murals in the village.

When: Dec 14-17

Where: Khoj International Artists’ Association

Timings: Noon – 8pm
