What Is It?

COMMEAT is helping four Afghani refugee mothers find positivity and inspiration by the way of hosting an authentic lunch in Vasant Kunj. These women are single mothers from conflict-ridden Afghanistan are are whipping up traditional recipes for whoever wants to share the table.

Right from your cup of Afghan chai to Shammi Kabab and Phirni, the menu is loaded with delicacies that have been perfected in the kitchen over generations and all it’ll cost to eat this four-course? INR 1,500.

Who Is It For?

Food purists who believe in nothing but the real deal. It’s also perfect for those like an intimate dining experience with a liberal spattering of lunch-time anecdotes with the cooks themselves {in this case, the mothers}.

Why Should I Go For It?

You’ll get insights into local life and cuisine which means it’s not just going to be a run-off-the-mill food event. In fact, just by being a good, empathetic listener, you might even empower these women to feel better about their lives in India.

Now, the most obvious reasons: There’s Ashak, Shammi Kabab and Afghani Samosa for starters. It’ll be followed by a heavy-duty main course comprising traditional Kabuli Pulao, Mutton-Do-Pyaza, Qormi-E-Murgh, Borani Banjan {eggplant with with tomatoes, yoghurt, herbs and spices}, Daal Zard {yellow masoor daal in typical Afghani flavours} and Afghani Roti {the fluffy bread baked in tandoor}. Finally, it’ll end with dates and phirni. In all, that makes it 12 reasons.

If all this food and the general idea doesn’t inspire you, you’re free to land up at Hauz Khas and do the typical things you do {not judging either way}.
