AMA serves the best thukpa we’ve ever tasted. The Chicken Thukpa with lots of vegetables and stock has shredded chicken, and we found it to be way tastier than the vegetarian variant. AMA also has great momo for both the vegetarian as well as the non-vegetarian momo lover. Think chicken, pork, buff…the works. Large-sized momo with spicy garlic sauce have never been this well-received.
AMA Restaurant for a Stellar Thukpa & Pork Momo
Must Eat
Must Drink
Fruit beer, since it goes well with the slightly spicy Tibetan food.
What we loved
This is easily accessible via the back gate of Majnu ka Tila. Definitely order the thukpa, Chilli Potatoes, Shabalay and Tingmo {soft fluffy bread that tastes wonderful with gravy}. The Pork Chilly as well as the momo are to-die-for.
The best thing about this place is that it is reasonably priced.
What didn’t impress us
The Thenthuk {hand-pulled noodle soup} was unimpressive. The service is also quite laid-back {read, slow} mostly.
What is the best time to visit?
The best time to visit is lunchtime, or maybe slightly after, when it’s not too crowded.
Anything else?
Add a bit of their chilli garlic sauce {a trade secret we hear} to your thukpa, it gives it a real kick of flavour.
