This bistro does it right | Amour in Malcha Marg

Having been here plenty of times, I can safely say that this new bistro on the block is an idyllic place to settle down with a book and indulge in some coffee and dessert, whilst soaking in the sun that bathes the cafe through ceiling to floor glass windows.  Be warned though, it gets tough to keep your eyes down; they will wander to admire the beauty that surrounds you. The rustic white walls, yellow floral prints, wrought iron chandeliers and the distressed wood on the ceiling come together seamlessly to form this quirky, shabby-chic establishment. Add to that the soulful voice of Edith Piaf - I felt like I was walking into a quaint bistro in France.

Run by the folks behind Amour in Hauz Khas Village {a haunt for sundowners and sangrias}, this place has a personality of its own, and a very captivating one. The character comes from the attention that has been paid to the smallest and most intricate details - from the wifi specifications stamped on the placemats, to the beautiful presentation of the food.

The menu is interesting and versatile - appetizers, soups, salads, wood-fired pizzas, pastas, risottos, mains, steaks, quiches, burgers, sandwiches, shawarmas and the grande finale, desserts. Non-alcoholic and alcoholic, there's a variety of drinks to choose from. On this particular occasion, I began with a Smoked Salmon and Crab Salad, and followed it up with a vegetarian Lasagna and the Marjoram Roast Spring Chicken. The salad was light, and the salmon extremely fresh. The lasagna was perfectly cooked, and the combination of flavours and textures in the Roast Spring Chicken made it moist and packed with flavour all the way through. The star of my meal though was my final order - The Great Tiramisu. It’s not common to find a light and buoyant tiramisu that melts in the mouth, but this particular one is absolutely delightful!

Amour gets brownie points for artful presentation of food, irrespective of how simple or complex the dish is. One of my orders on one of my many visits was the rather straightforward Country Roast Chicken Sandwich, and it came to me on a wooden tray placed on a lovely doily, along with some crisps and salad.
