Anand Restaurant: The Biryani Destination For All CP Offices

Shortcut

Tucked away behind the petrol pump on KG Marg lies Anand Restaurant—a no-frills, super dingy joint which is responsible for feeding a large percentage of the office crowd in CP. The plat du jour? Biryani of course.

Chow Down

Keema Biryani, Egg Biryani

Sip On

Anything but the water. They have a selection of aerated beverages.

Winning For

Churning out some of the best biryani in the city {remember, you’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover} and doing it successfully for almost 43 years now.

Lowdown On The Ambience

A shady entrance, marked by an uber-friendly person at the counter, who will in all likeliness dispel any apprehensions that you may have about dining here. The interiors are equally dingy, leading us to believe that Anand Restaurant has taken it upon itself to conserve electricity. Simple tables and chairs with red vinyl peeling off welcome you in all their shabbiness. In love, yet? No? You probably will be once you’ve received your lunch.

What's On The Menu?

Anand Restaurant does north Indian thalis, but their claim to fame is definitely their biryanis, and that’s what we recommend you try. They’ve got the usual chicken, mutton, vegetarian but if you’re okay going out of your comfort zone, we’d say try the keema or the egg.

The biryani here, unlike the ones we’re used to, isn’t orange and spice-laden. Served in steel plates, you get a generous portion of the rice with a side of gravy and onions dusted with masala and green chutney. It’s the kind of biryani you can have every day without feeling full to the brim. Whether that’s a pro or a con, we leave it to you to declare. We’re quite happy hopping here {happier ordering in} on the days when ghar ka khana just seems like a downer.
