What Makes It Awesome

If you’re the kind of person who can never ignore a plate of naan and butter chicken or maybe you’re just someone who loves a little bhangra in all parts of the world… Angry Sardar in Anjuna is your kind of place. Proudly calling itself an upscale dhaba, it makes all the noise and good paneer to make it qualify for one of the best restaurants for authentic North Indian food.

Say whatever you will, the guys behind Angry Sardar are sure carrying the vibe and culinary prowess from Romeo Lane and Mama’s Buoi from Dilli to Goa. Reserve all your good judgement for the Chilli Chicken and Mutton Rogan Josh, both the perfect celebration of North Indian and Chinjabi for our comfort-food-seeking taste buds. We loved the softest paneer tossed with chunky van-type Chinese veggies and covered in a recognisable sweet-soy sauce. The mutton came with optimally balanced spices and a buttery chilli, coriander naan to add an extra oomph.

The chicken tikka and veg hara bhara kebabs were great in lead supporting roles as well. We chose a certain LIIT topped with red wine because hey, we were in the mood to go full Patiala and the drink was more potent than we’d have imagined. Hospitality and all that! The food though, was the undisputed star of the evening and you’d be silly to not get your fill of Kadhai Paneer and Mutton Seekh Kebab. For all the Chinjabi-loving, whisky-guzzling people in the house, there’s obviously a whole load of Chilli Chicken and Chilli Garlic Noodles and they’re totes nostalgia inducing.

While we polished off the gulab jamun with rabri (a shade too sweet for our liking tbh), we did take a few moments to soak in all the drama from the ambience too. The gazillion plants everywhere and colourful furniture and a truck-themed bar make this a large and lively force to reckon with. They even have live music with Bollywood classics and retro songs and are quite a hit with the party crowd.

What Could Be Better

Despite everything the staff tried, the mosquitoes merrily feasted on our legs during that deadly 6–7pm. Post that, they let us be but then, the music was way too loud for us to sit around and have a conversation. So, yes, this might not be the best place to catch up, but sure enough works if you’re in the mood for a hen (or not) party (those who get it, get it).

Pro-Tip

The restaurant is open through the year and through the week.
