The Annual Book & Bake Sale is back, and it's happening on 26 November at Chittaranjan Bhavan in CR Park. The event is organised by passionate readers Swati Daftuar, Shashank Bhargava and Smit Zaveri. If you're not familiar with what it is all about, then this is a lovely coming together of people who love books as much as they love baked goods. Fine folks (regular ones like you and me) donate books of all kinds and genres from across the country, and baked goodies as well, and all of it is sold at prices between INR 20 and INR 400.
The proceeds go to a good cause or charity, last year around INR 3,40,000 was raised, which went to the wonderful Nalanda Academy, which trains students from marginalised communities for quality higher education, Helpage India and SPCA. This year the proceeds will be redirected to organisations working towards providing relief and assistance to the people most affected by the violence and unrest in Manipur and SPCA. And all of it free of cost. There’s also going to be two raffles this year – one for adults and one for children.
With over 4,000 books donated to this sale, you'll definitely find something for yourself. They have a superb collection of specialist books this year. Expect to find lots of stuff for history lovers and collectors of antiquarian books. They have been given a generous number of children’s books too, so parents will also enjoy them to their fullest; there’s something for everyone.
From past experience, we highly recommend you show up early so that you can get your pick of books because it gets extra difficult to choose from such a lovely and vast collection! And since it's shopping for charity, and at such reasonable rates, go forth and shop to your heart's content. And take bags. Big bags for your book loot! Oh, and don't forget to take home cakes, cookies, breads, doughnuts and more that have also been donated by home bakers and chefs from across Delhi NCR.
