Ten-Second Takeaway

Let me say this straight off: I love Indian clothes, and think there’s nothing as elegant as a well-draped sari. The obsession with pretty Indian outfits also sat quite well with a host of shaadis I had to attend every now and then and I enjoyed the functions dressed in all my finery.

Which leads me to my list of go-tos that I swear by. So, hear me out as I spill the beans on designers who won’t leave you bankrupt, but will make you look like a million bucks.

Rupika Sadh

I’ve danced at many a sangeet with my girl gang wearing Sadh creations. Embroidery is her forte, so she does Lucknowi work and uses rich, antique borders. Her outfits have an amazing traditional vibe that makes them timeless yet regal.

Call her and seek at appointment at +91 9818336755.

Divya Sood

Divya is a wonderful discovery I have my mom to thank for. She invests time and patience in each of her customers and has an amazing line of anarkalis, salwar kameez and jackets. Her specialty, however, is gota work and pin tucks.

She currently caters to a niche audience through two annual shows at Nivasa, Meherchand Market and this is where visitors can see her collections and contact her for customised orders. You can keep a tab on her shows here.

You can call her at +91 9717111165 for details.

Mallika Mathur

I love her outfits for being so non-fussy and perfect for every age. They have flattering cuts and gorgeous, evergreen designs. Mallika works with handwoven textiles sourced from Banarasi weavers but gives them a contemporary edge.

Pick from saris, jackets, anarkalis… Mallika always nails it.

Call 011 41749910 for details or drop by at her studio {by appointment} at B-41, Swami Nagar, Second Floor.

Upasana Jaipuria

Minimalistic and subtle, Upasana does a lot of mixing and matching with colours and is especially good with light-weight fabrics. She’s great at designing silhouettes and cuts that flatter individual body types.

She does capes, anarkalis, lehengas, saris, tunics and other ensembles that are perfect for smaller functions. She’s also not over-the-top expensive. Check out her collection online.

Contact her at +91 9810054911 or find her on Facebook.
