You know how you need to apply moisturizer after you wash your face, by that same logic, you should be applying good, hydrating leave-in conditioners after a head wash so that the moisture gets locked in and you can maintain healthy hair follicles. Leave-in treatments not only moisturize and nourish your hair but also help with frizziness. While the common belief is that it is only needed for curly hair, the truth is that it's a blessing for all types and textures of hair, especially considering the water and air quality we lead our lives in. We talked to people with straight, wavy and curly hair, and here's what they recommend.
Straight, Curly Or Wavy: Tried-and-Tested Leave-In Conditioners That WORK
Best For Curly Hair
Ashba Botanics Leave-In Conditioner
Asha Barrack went from starting India’s first curly hair blog (Right Ringlets) in 2014 to creating fantastic curl products, one of which is this one-size-fits-all leave-in conditioner. It contains all the yummy oils and plant extracts your hair needs to stay hydrated and frizz-free, is lightweight, and works well even in humid climates! This comes highly recommended by most curly girls, and will help your curls stay in place for up to even five days, if used consistently.
Curl Up
Curl Up's defining cream is an all-in-one conditioner with the goodness of flax seeds and argon oil. It helps define and hold your curls while still being lightweight and moisturizing. It is perfect for those who don't like the sticky texture leave-ins usually settle into. See it for yourself here.
Anomaly
What I love about the Anomaly leave-in conditioner is that it is light and does not feel like your hair is locked in cement. It locks in the moisture and good oils without making the hair look limp and as if it has product in it. Since it's made from avocado and murumuru, you can count on getting some lost shine back. This one even makes the hair much more manageable, softens it and easily detangles the strands. Oh, in case you didn't know, the brand by Priyanka Chopra is also paraben-free, sulphate free and vegan too.

Fix My Curls
Fix My Curls is a cruelty-free Indian brand that offers a range of products for curly heads. Their leave-in cream aims to lock in moisture, making your hair frizz-free. Ingredients like Jojoba oil, Nigella sativa oil, Chamomilla recutita extract, all work to nourish and strengthen your hair. Users love this product to bits and claim that it defines their curls and tames the frizz, making their hair more manageable.
Best For Wavy Hair
Milk Shake
This one claims to work on all hair types, and while I can’t speak for others, it's done a pretty good job on my wavy dry hair. It helps with detangling, gives a shine, protects from UV rays and helps with frizz. For best results, apply it on damp hair and style as usual.
OUAI
OUAI is a haircare line by celebrated hairstylist Jet Atkins, who has styled literally all of the Kardashian-Jenners. This conditioner promises to condition, detangle and soften your hair. You only have to lightly mist on damp hair before brushing, it's that simple. The added bonus is that it's colour-safe and provides heat protection up to 450°F/232°C.
BBlunt
If floofed up hair (read frizzy) is your major concern, then the BBlunt leave-in conditioner is probably what you should add to your cart. You have to apply a coin-sized amount to damp hair and style as usual. The description of the product vaguely mentions it acts as a heat protectant as well but we aren’t too sure about that bit.
Best For Staright Hair
L'Oreal
Even though this is an oil (which essentially makes it a serum), I strongly feel this product should make it to the list as it's a really nice leave-in treatment and it gets the job done. Straight-haired folks don’t require as much moisture locking, which means lighter formulas like this one are also good enough for simple frizz control and adding some luster. Apply a pea-sized amount on your fingers and run them through damp hair, and you're done.
Aveda
A product that promises to do it all—hydrate, protect and detangle. You can use it on wet or dry hair, which means you can apply this on two-day-old hair. In fact, it can also be used as a pre-shampoo treatment. The great thing is that it's lightweight and makes your hair smoother and shinier.
