Turn Black

We simply HAD to begin this list with Turn Black. Afterall, it’s India’s first all-black clothing label and it does a fabulous job of it too. The brand crafts clothing for anyone who wants to fade into black and encourages its wearers to identify with it. All their designs are form-free and have undefiable silhouettes. Their collections include everything from coords, skirts and shorts, pants, dresses, tunics, shirts, sarees and more. If you’re looking for a full-black ensemble, they’ve got scrunchies and bags too!

Chemistry

Honestly, if we weren’t researching for this recommendation list, we wouldn’t have known that Chemistry has very cute loungewear and night suits. The brand has regular fast-fashion offerings, box shirts and black and blue printed shirts that we’d wear to work if we weren’t working from home. They have a black shift dress, black A-line dress, black midi dress, and…should we go on? You’ll also spot beige kurtas with minimal grey or black embroidery, and black striped kurtas among their collection.

If a big spend doesn’t hurt your pocket, Mati is for you. And, what a gorgeous collection they have! Search on their website by colour and you’ll find endless options for jumpsuits, dresses, coord sets, pants and overlays. With several asymmetrical cuts, stripes and even solid-coloured clothing, you’ll be spoilt for choice here. We’re eyeing their Navy Blue Blue Buttoned Ooch Neech Aakaar, Beige Overlap Tunic, Hooded Koza Black Dress and Overlay Set, among others.

Did someone tell you that grey and beige were too dull for festive wear? W for Woman’s collection can beat that notion. They have all-black, all-beige, all-grey and all-blue varieties for bottoms — flared pants, palazzos, slim pants — and mandarin kurtas, gathered dresses, shirt dresses and more. If you want a complete ensemble, we spotted beige stilettos and flats, and even masks!

Uniqlo

Apart from Uniqlo’s great quality and fits, we love them for their love for neutrals. Their solid-coloured clothing has pastels, neutrals and some dark hues too. We’re sure you already are aware of their offerings. But in case you need a few suggestions on what to pick, look at their Rayon Short Sleeve Blouse in beige,  Light Flannel Checked Long Sleeve Shirt in navy, and black V Neck 3/4 Sleeve Flare Dress, to name a few.

Berrylush

If you love shopping on a budget, this brand might be right up your alley. Solids in trendy cuts and styles rule their collection and it’s quite an ideal brand for younger millennials and Gen Z. We couldn’t stop scrolling their website for all the shades of blue they’ve stocked. Berrylush Women Solid Blue V-Neck Wrap Midi Dress, Blue Solid High-Low Top, and Navy Blue Stripe Culotte Jumpsuit are what caught our eye.

Malie

Are you a big spender? Check out Malie which is inspired by Indian textiles and the easy-to-wear mentality of Scandinavian fashion. You too will feel inspired by their tops and dresses, and skirts without the fuss of many prints and extremely trendy cuts. Their clothing is focused on handcrafts and uses organic cotton, which makes wearing it feel all the more good.

Abhishti

If there’s an Indian brand that does solid-coloured fashion well, we think it’s Abhishti. Scalloped hemlines, unique button-downs, cross tie-ups, mini front knots, are all the detailing their clothing needs to stand out. It’s effortless clothing that’s designed cleverly and would make anyone look neat, for the lack of a better word. Shirt Tie-Up Belt Mini Dress-Smoke Grey, Front Knot Mini Dress-Azure Blue, Cross Tie-Up Cotton Poplin Shift Dress-Midnight Black are some that we would definitely cart from their present collection.

Alter Ego

Going down several Instagram holes led us to Alter Ego, a 10-year-old fashion brand that’s proudly made and sold in India. We found it quite fitting for this list because their Instagram page too, follows a colour aesthetic - all the blues, blacks and more are showcased one after the other. We love their power jumpsuits, some tops have puffed organza sleeves (that look fab!) and fit and flare bottoms, which look so comfortable. While you will find other shades heere, their blues and blacks all look like power wear with detailing that’s unique to the brand.

After Uniqlo, the first brand that came to our mind for neutrals and dark hues, was H&M. Their collection is dominated with neutral solids, and we’re sure you have a wishlist of your own. From their current collection, we’re loving the Hooded Sweatshirt Dress in black, Puff Sleeved Crepe Dress, Collared Rib Dress in black or grey mark, among others.
