For all my fellow avid readers of Lady Whistledown’s tea, I know you are excited for Bridgerton season 3 that is about to drop because I for sure are no exception to the sheer excitement.  As testimony to my unhinged excited, I caught myself going down rabbit holes after another of season 3 related content on Instagram, when I stumbled upon these beautiful creations from @thecreativecub aka Sanket Deshmukh. The looks reimagined by him were so unique and creative that it got me thinking about how the Bridgerton wardrobe would look if it was recreated in India. The kind of suits and salwars would people wear and how would they style it?

Bridgerton brought with it loads of trends that were picked up by everyone from designers to micro-influencers and caused a wave filled with florals, pastels and corsets with hints of royalty that we devoured so while we used AI to re-imagine what the characters would wear of Bridgeton was made in India.

Here are 7 trends that I feel would translate perfectly into the Indian traditional wardrobe:

Fully Loaded With Designer Corset Blouses

One trend that really swept us all up was the corsets. Every outfit in Bridgerton had these, although these are not a popular blouse choice in India, I feel these would look really cool with lehengas and sarees. Off-late, this style has also been popping up a lot in Indian fashion shows, with designers bringing it back to the mainstream fashion industry.

The structure of these corsets are simple with the blouse ending under the breast and a square or sweetheart neckline. The dresses have cap or off-shoulder short sleeves. Their blouses always look rich and royal because of the texture of the material or the work on them.

I feel the Indian Bridgerton wardrobe would have a similar style, but the corsets would be longer and of base colours like golden or beige that could easily be paired with any lehenga or saree plus also leaning into the drop-waist silhouette which is quite popular right now.

Pastel Tones Obsession

When we talk about Bridgerton, of course the Bridgerton family aesthetic of wearing pastels has to be mentioned. The wardrobe would be filled with lighter suits and sarees, such as lilac, baby pink, peach, and blue, basically a Regency-style colour palette.

Wearing such Anarkalis or Lehenga with dainty minimal jewellery and net shrugs would result in a classic Daphne or Eloise look, but pairing it with minimum and royal statement pieces; and an Odhni would give you a slightly more formal Edwina Sharma season 2 look.

Headgear and Tiaras FTW

I don’t know about others, but after Bridgerton, I was obsessed with headgear and tiaras that everyone was constantly seen wearing. From Kate to Daphne to Edwina, everyone always had these beautiful non-flashy-looking tiaras that screamed royal “Princess” and “Duchess”. These were matching to their jewellery and styled perfectly with their hairstyles, to me, this was the peak.

In Indian ones, this would turn into a bun accessory and maangtika along with naths and ear cuffs that would all be connected. Alternatively, these would also be head chains that could be connected to nose rings or earcuffs.

Dark Lehengas Inspired By Precious Stone Colours

Although the Bridgerton family was constantly clad in pastels, the other families, especially Lady Danbury and Kate Sharma, looked so elegant and royal in outfits that were in colours such as ruby, emerald, amethyst, aquamarine and such. Such dresses were always worn with jackets and would become the perfect suits and lehengas with jackets in ethnic wear.

Dainty Jewellery In Vanity

Even though the Bridgerton jewellery looked royal, it was very dainty and minimal in nature with precious stones. These sets had beautiful diamonds studded in the plating giving them a rich and elegant look. Although all the characters had amazing jewellery, the ones worn by Edwina were on another level and pretty much broke the internet with her dainty choker neck pieces with droplets of beads that were perfectly in tune with the rest of her outfit.

So if this were to be made Indian, largely it would stay the same as Edwina herself was Indian but only with the edition of a maang tika combined with or instead of a tiara. Nathni’s would also be a very popular accessory to make it Indian royalty core.

Floral Work And Prints

The Featheringtons had their own style of funky and interesting fashion. They would majorly wear bright colours like yellow and red with very obvious floral fabrics. Compared to them the rest had more subtle and simple work over their fabrics, but the florals were still a common element that everyone wore.

The Indian wardrobe it would translate as beautiful gotapatti work along the borders and small work over the fabric in floral designs. Alternatively, the fabrics could also be printed in light floral designs such like the ones in the image, giving it a laid-back luxurious look.

Naturally Enhancing Silhouettes And Colours

The Victorian Regency era was all about tight and structured silhouettes, making them body-enhancing, regardless of the actual figure of the wearer. And of course Bridgerton did it right by giving all characters outfits that accentuated their natural figures even as they addressed the ideal body figure issue within women. So keeping that in mind, opting for silhouettes and colours that make you look and feel better about yourself would be the trend. Think sweetheart or square necklines in garments, the corset style structure without the suffocating boning of course. You can also pick out shorter and more open lengths in blouses and deeper necklines in kurtas which can later be covered with sheer dupattas instead of the gloves.
