These 5 Gorgeous Places In Himachal Cost Less Than INR 1,500 A Night

Hills are best done on a budget. Why? Well, because big hotel chains with even bigger tariffs don’t have the character or the hill vibe that you can only experience only when you share home {and dining table} space with a local family from the area.

If you’re a true traveller who doesn’t mind a bit of roughing out or an odd bumpy road, you’ll probably like the bnb accommodation options that we’ve picked out. These five places are a mix of old family homes, guest houses and camps. Plus, they all cost less than INR 1,500. Book now or contend with being a day-dreamer.

Latoda Hut & Pine Wood Cottage

Equipped with four bedrooms, these wooden lodges echo traditional Kullu architecture and offer the solitude every sick-of-the-city person seeks. You can stroll by the nearby river, sign up for adventure activities or just ask the host to take you on secret trekking paths. The cosy property can accommodate up to eight people. Bonus: People have great things to say about the host, JD and his father.

Pause Cottage

Who wants Manali’s crowds when you can plonk yourself on the highest point and watch the best sunrise you’ve ever seen? If you’re all for peace and views, you’ll like what this Delhi-based corporate elf, Ajay, has done with Pause. Like a lot of us, he was done with the city and decided to retire to the hills {he’s all of 29, by the way} and is now hosting eager travellers who like paragliding, bonfires, treks, rafting and mountain gazing. As is obvious, this is off the beaten track and cut off from the city so if you’re hoping for frequent trips to the touristy part, it might be trouble if you don’t have transport {or aren’t cut out for really long walks}.

Nature Park - The Maya Homestay

Going with family or intend of making a long-ish trip to the hills with bae? This house on Dharamshala road is a good option that comes with a kitchen that you’re free to hijack for late night munchies. There’s an organic farm to pick cherry tomatoes, fresh water springs and lots of bonding opportunities with the Chari village locals around. If Mcleod’s too mainstream for you and you’re someone who likes a lot of human interaction, you’ll get along just fine with the Rana family that owns this house and strikes conversations at the drop of a hat.

Vanvaas Homestay

Clean and cut away from chaos, Vanvaas is a nicely-maintained family home that’s more than 10 kms from the city. If you want to reach without a hassle, we’d suggest letting the host book a taxi for you because last-minute scrambling isn’t what you want to do when seeking a blissful vacation. The location is an absolute winner in terms of views and activities around. The only downside: They receive visitors only on the weekend.

Homestay By The Beas River

This traditional Kullu-food serving guesthouse lets you lodge either in cosy rooms or in fluffy sleeping bags right by the river. A lot of trekkers and travellers to Manali looking for a pit stop should consider this option. The property looks picture-perfect and offers ample recreation by the way of fishing, camping, rafting and even paragliding. We’re thinking, we must do this with a big group of travel buddies who live to explore.
