What Makes It Awesome?

Moti Mahal claims to be the birthplace of the legendary and our very favourite Butter chicken, we tried the Jail Road Moti Mahal Delux restaurant first to check if they maintained good standards of butter chicken or not. The outlet seems to be a small one, with very limited seating and more than promoting their legendary delights and their speciality in curating standard North Indian delights, however, sadly the entire outlet was covered with posters here and their giving discount offers on Chinese dishes. We felt strange at first and felt uncomfortable in the dingy ambience. Yet we were too excited to taste and judge the authenticity of butter chicken from the semi birthplace of butter chicken.

So well, we went ahead to order the most obvious Butter chicken and Chicken Rara as recommended by them, we ordered two Butter naans and One garlic naan along with some aerated drinks.

And we were quite satisfied with the food, not just the quantity but the quality of gravy and the taste were near to perfect. The butter chicken gravy was smooth and glossy, bright orange served with fresh white cream on top. The best part was that the price of both boneless, as well as a bone with gravy, is the same, just that you need to tell them your preference beforehand but they serve six pieces for boneless which are kind of small, and four relatively bigger pieces in case of bone with. The chicken in the butter chicken was nicely marinated and moist and perfectly cooked tandoori chicken we could tell. And pieces were enmeshed in the gravy nicely. The quantity of the half plate gravy is good for two people.

Coming to the Chicken Rara, the concept of this dish is that the gravy itself has minced chicken throughout along with the big chunks of pieces of chicken which were nicely cooked and marinated, it was absolute bliss to have the gravy itself, the boneless tikka pieces were just the cherry on top of the cake. However, I still did feel that the ratio of minced chicken in the gravy was less compared to the other chopped vegetables majorly onions.

The Butter naan was perfect, crispy and soft different regions of the naan, the size of the naans could have been bigger though.

The Garlic naan was a good choice we made, usually, garlic naans have just a pinch of garlic spread only in the middle of the naan while it was being rolled out or in some places, they also brush a sort of garlic butter on naan to make garlic naans. But here they made sure to incorporate garlic in the dough itself to make sure that the flavour is spread throughout. Garlic naans also have a potential of smelling unpleasant due to the strong pungent smell of garlic but Moti mahal (Jail road) managed to serve the perfect garlic naans you would thoroughly enjoy.

All in all, this place gets a good review for its food taste but loses its points due to poor service and sort of shady ambience. Well, this should be mentioned that their washrooms have a creepy red light and no other bigger source of light which is kind of weird and creepy.
