Hair brushes are easily one of the most overlooked accessories in our vanity. You might think all you need it for is detangling and smoothening, but the thing is it's super important to choose your hair brushes based on your hair type to help with the overall health and well-being of your tresses.

Coming to the rescue, here's a complete guide on hair brushes to buy for different hair types.

Straight Hair

For straight hair, a paddle brush works best because it not only covers a lot of hair at once, but also helps in evenly distributing oils throughout. A brush with a rubber pad is an added bonus. You don't really need a heavy, sturdy one since straight hair is easy to brush through. Check these ones out:

Same goes for this one. GUBB does great products when it comes to hair and brushes are definitely one of their top picks. This paddle brush with flexible nylon brushes is again, a good pick for straight hair, and according to some curly hair too! It's sturdy to handle thick/tangled hair and covers a large portion faster owing to the paddle size. All in all, the quality is good!

Curly Hair

Curly haired folks might curl up at the thought of brushing their hair, but please don't. It's super important to brush your hair to distribute the oils secreted by your scalp, and to avoid the length of your hair becoming dry and coarse. Plus, the whole trope of "brushing your hair makes you lose out on curls" is a myth. With the right brush and styling products you'll always have your curls intact. For brushes, we'd suggest you choose a super sturdy brush, or even a wide-toothed comb that's suitable to use in the shower too.

Regardless of hair type, you must own a wide-toothed comb to help detangle your hair when and wherever needed without much tugging on your roots. Its eco-friendly, handcrafted, and helps nourish the scalp with it being made of neem.

Thin Hair

If you have thin hair, there's only one rule. Be as gentle as possible, and choose a brush that is just a gentle. Avoid brushes with hard bristles, and make sure it is padded so that it is lighter on the scalp, and provides cushioning.

I used this a while back and while it was a super sturdy brush and did wonders for frizz, I'd suggest avoiding this if you have thin curly hair as it's not a good detangler, however, works well on thin straight hair! The bristles are quite flexible and it's very gentle on the scalp which doesn't make you miss the cushioning. Added points for being easy to clean and affordable!

Thick Hair

Being blessed with thick hair comes with two things: constantly complimented, and constant detangling! Thick hair can be a tad difficult to manage even if their curly or straight. Despite that, if you have thick hair, make sure to use a proper detangling brush or comb, always. It's also important to pick one with a mix of boars' hair and nylon pins. The nylon pins are tough enough to brush thick hair quickly and boars' hair increases shine by redistributing the natural oils.

Dry Hair

Dry or damaged hair can easily be pointed out due to its lack of lustre and moisture. And yes, while you might switch up hair products for this concern, you might actually need a good brush to help you. For dry hair, we'd suggest a hair brush with soft bristles, (boar's hair or silicone) and one with a detangling, yet massaging ability so that there's more blood circulation leading to more distribution of oils.

You'll need a good detangler if you have dry hair that obvious lacks lustre and is messy. GUBB as stated before does great hair styling products, and this tangle eraser is also one of them! The length of my hair is quite dry and I'd vouch for this one any day. It's easy to grip, the bristles are gentle n the scalp and even when I use it on wet hair.

Oily Hair

Oily hair is something a lot of us deal with! It's annoying, embarrassing, and not a cool look at all. This leads to a lot of washing of our hair which again is not the best way out. If you think you don't need an appropriate brush if you have oily hair, then think again. Because with the right brush you can actually get rid of excess oil, and distribute it better to void a greasy top! That's why synthetic boar hair-like bristles brush help to penetrate down to the scalp, distributing the hair's natural oils.

What we love about this brush and why we think it's suitable for oily hair is because of its bristles—which are sturdy and have "squirt detanglers" that are designed to minimize pain and to protect the hair against split ends and breakage. It lets you brush with less force, so you can detangle with less damage to your hair while distributing all that excess oil from your scalp, downward. Plus is pocket sized and portable.

Also, boar bristles work wonders in giving your hair shine.

Wet Hair

If you brush your hair when it's wet, or even towel dried, then you need really soft bristles so as not to break the strands, but also tough enough to detangle. And if you have textured or curly hair, then it's recommended you brush it when wet. What do you need? Well, essential, try heat-resistant bristles. Better still, get shower brushes or combs, especially if you have curly hair.

Ideal for the slightly lazy ones, who would rather just shower, condition, masque, brush and dry their hair in one sitting, Aakanksha recommends this one. "I've used this for ages, and I love that it's great for both dry and wet hair." The long and short bristle help detangle easily, and also tame the frizz. "I workout twice a day some days, so even if my hair isn't wet from washing, it's definitely damp from a bit of sweat. So, this works in my favour both ways."
