From Monday onwards, Delhites can use their Metro smart cards to travel in select DTC buses plying in areas like Mori Gate, Mayur Vihar Phase III, Jahangirpuri, Anand Vihar, Mukherjee Nagar and Inderpuri.
As part of this project {which seeks to merge bus and metro travel}, the Common Mobility Card facility will be available in 200 DTC buses and 50 cluster buses. Travel fare will now be deducted automatically from a passenger’s metro card once the bus conductor taps the card on an electronic ticketing machine. In return, passengers will get a paper ticket showing the remaining card balance.
The project is currently in its trial period, but it is expected that by March 31, people can use the Common Mobility Card in all 5,421 buses across the city. Eventually, you’ll also be able to recharge and buy Metro cards at DTC offices and the government’s also planning to extend this facility to Metro feeder buses and cycle-sharing services.
Just think about how convenient it will be to carry only one card to commute around town! We really wish things had been this easy when we were in college.
We first read about it here.
