With pleasant temperatures and the much-needed change of scenery that will rejuvenate you instantly, Coorg is perfect for a summer getaway. When in Coorg, we recommend Casa Coorg; a lovely homestay just outside Virajpet. Owned by an ex-army couple, Bharat and Pearl {girl power!}, the place is modern and nestled between a golf course, paddy fields and coffee plantations.

The drive to the place is an experience in itself; so pretty that you’ll start unwinding on the away. A large modern house with lovely verandahs attached to each room and a small, quaint cottage just a little way off; this one’s not your typical Coorg bungalow. Possibly because Bharat and Pearl aren’t actually from Coorg, but have made it their home post retirement from the army. Naturally, the space is spic-and-span and runs like clockwork.

Pick from two deluxe rooms {at the back of the house for privacy} or the cottage. We really like the rooms {part of the main house} and would pick those any day. Overlooking paddy fields on one side and plantations on the other, the rooms are really large, with a patio area ideal for yoga, reading, lounging or even a boisterous game of Pictionary.

Buy a few drinks in town, rope in Bharat and Pearl, and make a lovely game night of it as we did. Don’t play Monopoly; it’ll go on until 6am! The cottage is a good option for those looking to cosy up a bit but don’t want to be a part of the main house.

Try convincing Pearl to make her amazing Irish Cream, though you’ll probably need to get her to give you the list of ingredients and get them from town.
