Cruise Control: Float Down the Brahmaputra On Board MV Mahabaahu

The information in this post might be outdated

Shortcut

Explore the Brahmaputra river, and the surrounding Kaziranga National Park, with a cruise onboard the MV Mahabaahu. This tour combines the best of a cruise with the best of a safari, into one breathtaking journey.

River Ridin’

The MV Mahabaahu drifts down the Brahmaputra, with Kaziranga National Park on either side. There are modern amenities and comfortable cabins, but if you thought this cruise was only about some rest and relaxation, then you thought wrong.

Pit Stops

This eco-cruise is arranged with the intention of exploring the surrounding area. The ship stops regularly at pre-arranged jetty points, from where jeep, elephant and boat safaris are launched.

Cruise-goers then experience, up close and personal, the flora, fauna and landscape of their lush surroundings. The national park is home to one of the largest single-horned rhino populations, and has a host of other animals—elephants, wild buffalo, tigers, swamp deer and more {don’t even get us started on the number of birds!}.

Beyond the wildlife, there is much to explore culturally in the area. Itineraries include trips to weavers villages, ancient historical sites, Buddhist monasteries and Hindu gurukuls, all by the backdrop of extensive, verdant paddy fields and tea plantations.

Rooms on the River

The ship has 23 twin and double cabins. There are two suites with balconies, nine superior cabins, also with balconies, and 12 superior cabins without balconies. All cabins have satellite TV, personal safes, mini bars, attached bathrooms and an in-house phone. Being on a ship, these rooms aren’t the biggest, so keep that in mind if you feel claustrophobic.

You Should Know

There is no night cruising. All cruising takes place between six am and six pm. The MV Mahabaahu has a downstream and upstream cruise, starting at different points. Cruises can be three nights, five nights and seven nights. We recommend the longest, so you can fulfil the entire itinerary.
