We have to confess, we’ve often underestimated Faridabad and this time, it was Open Yard, a four-month-old cafe that punctured our misconception with a mushroom skewer. Happy to find this sunshine-filled spot whose shakes and desi starters are a great companion on a breezy evening when we’re chilling with friends {or on a date night}.

How's The Food, Bruh?

With a rustic thatched roof and cute hanging mugs, the covered cabin is a respite when things get hot and rough for outdoors. We didn’t quite mind just looking out at the greens from the cabin’s big windows as we waited for our meal.

Our hungry selves sampled what the staff said was a crowd favourite, Shanghai Mushroom and a Chilli Paneer Sandwich. The former stayed true to its reputation and the sandwich was comforting as a hug – a simple affair with chunks of paneer, peppers and spring onions… Soya all was good there.

To was down our meal, we got a masala lemonade and a cold coffee. Again, both were pretty much everything our taste buds are accustomed to after eating at Delhi cafes. In short, a good dose of sweet and refreshing.

The menu also features the North Indian and Chinjabi we so love. Think on the lines of honey chilli potato, spring rolls, tikkas {chicken and paneer}, soya chaap, grilled sandwiches, Maggi, chilli garlic noodles {yum}, some pasta and burgers. There’s a special students’ menu that starts at INR 70 and is available till 7pm {cuz’ good students go back home after that?!}.

With our greasy Indian and spicy Chinese sorted, there was but only one bummer. The afternoon we visited, the persistent flies wanted a piece of everything on the table. The silver lining? We’re promised that a thorough pest control is in order and because this seems like a good intentioned little cafe, we’re going to take their word for it.

And What About The Sleeping Bit?

Like we said, this cafe is nothing that we are used to. It believes in working overtime and does it with full dedication {and cheesy love}.

For now, it’s up and running between 11am to 11pm but we’re told, they’d soon extend their food delivery {Indian and Chinese only} till 5am in Faridabad. And, if you’re an early riser, they’re soon going to have a breakfast menu from 7am. You can expect cholle bhature, parathas and poori bhaji. So, if you have a long day ahead, you know where to carb load in Fry-dabad.

So, We're Saying...

This beauty is worth your time and money. It’s cute as a button and super affordable.

See you soon, then?
