On days that you're craving unusual North Indian food, Daryaganj is your go-to place. The service is amazing and the staff is courteous. The ambience has an old school kind of vibe. It has artefacts kept on its shelves. This place has quite a warm and good vibe attached to it.
We tried the following items:-
Kheera shikanji: It was super refreshing, balanced and a light drink devoid of artificial syrups. Loved it
Lassi: unlike street lassi, this one wasn't as thick but the flavours were intact so we liked it.
Thandai: It reminded my friends of Holi. You have to try this. It's amazing.
The cheesy mushroom: It's amazing. Must try. The mushroom is coated with a crunchy layer and stuffed with cheese which melts in your mouth. If you love mushroom, you'll love it.
The Kebab platter (Dahi kebab, Paneer tikka, and Spinach kebab). I loved the fact that the ingredients were very fresh. Paneer had a melt in the mouth texture. We liked it.
Veg Biryani: Even my non-vegetarian friends who consider veg Biryani as pulao loved it. It had an aftertaste of ghee. It was nice and fragrant. I absolutely loved the fact it wasn't loaded with ghee but still had all the flavours.
The Butter Paneer Masala and Chur chur kucha: Unlike the usual smooth sweetish gravy of paneer this one had minimal sweetness and a lovely slightly coarse texture and by coarse I mean it had chopped onions unlike the blended ones in mainstream restaurants.
Now we come to our favorite meal
The desserts.
Phirni: We have been to a lot of restaurants but Phirni here is our favourite. It's the best Phirni we've ever had. Loved it.
Enjoyed the Rasmalai as well. It was not extra sweet. I loved that.
Definitely, a place where you can take your family as adults would love this kind of food. People who are now used to eating the modified version wouldn't enjoy it as much. So, if your taste buds can adapt and adjust, you should definitely go.
