What is it?
Dastkari Crafts Bazaar is organised annually by Dastkaari Haat Samiti, a not-for-profit organisation which works to raise the social and economic status of craftspersons through democratic procedures and self help. Dilli Haat will be transformed into a kaleidoscope of crafts, music, dance, and food at the Crafts Bazaar, featuring handicrafts from all over India sold directly by their makers.
Who is it for?
Craft lovers who love to fill their home with unique and exquisite pieces sourced directly from artisans. Those interested in textiles can catch live demonstrations of weaving looms from all over India.
Why should I go for it?
At its 30th edition in 2016, craftswomen from Myanmar will be displaying the world-famous Pathein umbrellas, puppets, velvet slippers, lacquer work and jade items. It also promises 20-30 craftspersons that you have never seen before {out of a total of 170 craftspersons}.
Watch live artistes perform folk music from Rajasthan, the exotic Kalbelia gypsy dance, Bhavai performers with earthen pots balanced on their head, and the tribal martial Chhau dancers from West Bengal.
Anything else?
Go with plenty of time in hand; stand and watch the Burmese craftspersons create magic with shell craft, basketry, mat weaving, handloom textile weaving, hyacinth grass weaving and jewellery. And along with the regional delicacies at Dilli Haat’s food court, we have no reason to skip this.
