Delhi Gets Its First Pink Toilet For Women!

The information in this post might be outdated

On International Day of the Girl Child {Oct 11}, the city’s first “pink toilet” was inaugurated in West Delhi’s Vikaspuri area by the Mayor of South Delhi Municipal Corporation {SDMC}.

This toilet for women that has a sanitary napkin vending machine, a breastfeeding area for mothers and incinerator facilities is located near PVR Vikaspuri. While the upkeep of these washrooms depends on both the authorities and the women using this facility, we’re just glad that the civic agencies are taking a step towards changing things for the better.

SDMC plans to construct more such “pink toilets” across Delhi and will be inviting applications from people who wish to get this facility opened in their area.

While living in Delhi has its own share of pros and cons, we cannot help but appreciate this move that ensures that women have easy access to hygienic public washrooms. Maybe there’s hope for this city after all.

We first read about this here.
