You mean the occasionally soft {but mostly quite hard and chewy} candy from Cadbury’s that we got two pieces of during our classmates’ birthdays weren’t actual éclairs? We feel cheated.
Trust the art of French patisseries to get it right – éclairs, the proper ones, are a marvellous engineering feat in balancing pastry and filling. And if you ask us, an éclair can kick the donut’s sweet behind any day of the week.
Très bon! Glad we have that settled. But where are the good ones to be found? We discovered, to our delight, that Le Meridien in Gurgaon keeps this French legacy alive with simply the best éclairs we’ve had the pleasure of getting our hands dirty with.
Well-prepared choux pastry filled with rich creamy centres rocked our world last week. While this particular French pastry is the signature offering of coffee bars across Le Meridien, each location leaves it to their chef to add local inspiration to flavours. As a result, we not only have dark and white chocolate fillings at Gurgaon, but Chef Kwatra’s team has also created a Masala Chai flavour as well as a Mishti Doi one. We swore we’d stop at one; we didn’t.
Accompanied by a strong coffee or your cup of tea and some big-name art scattered across the Longitude Bar, we’ve found the perfect storm for some afternoon delight.
