The handiest kitchen appliance has got to be the electric kettle! Boiling water is one of the easiest kitchen tasks, but if you think about why you need a special appliance for it, you're clearly not an avid tea or coffee drinker. Electric kettles make life easier, offering boiling water within seconds and helping you get to your cup of hot brew quicker.

Apart from ease of use, the automatic shut-down system that electric kettles have, is also an added benefit, as it helps avoid any accidents. If you're in the market to buy an electric kettle, we asked around for the best ones out there. So, here's a list of the best electric kettles that are tried and tested.

Things To Consider Before Buying An Electric Kettle

While we've collected a recommendation of the best kettles from the LBB community, there are some things you should consider when you're shopping for an electric kettle.

Capacity: Think of how many cups of tea or coffee you'll make in the morning. Now think of the capacity you want to choose. Electric kettles can range from 0.5 to 1.8 litres, so choose wisely.

Heating Performance: The wattage performance varies for each model, and that determines how quickly your water gets heated. So, a 750W will take a few minutes more than a 1500W kettle.

Construction: Your kettle should be well insulated, at least at the lid and handle for ease of use. Some kettles also come in different materials, so you can touch the lid without hurting yourself. And some others come with removable lids, making cleaning easier.

Design: There are a lot of varieties out there. But check for a cordless design, which makes carrying the kettle around and cleaning it easier as it comes with a dock base that stores the cord. Some older models of kettles have a cord attached to the kettle's body, which can be harder to use and clean.

Havells Aqua Plus

First off, I love this one for its colour. How often do you get a functional kettle that is such a pleasant blue? Wins brownie points from the look, for me! But as a kettle too, having used it for about a year, I'd recommend it for a household with kids because the outside doesn't get hot at all. The downside to this one is the short electric cord, but if you place it on a kitchen table that has a plug point, you are unlikely to need a longer cord. The water heats quite quickly, even when filled to maximum capacity, and it stays warm for a good 30 minutes. If you want lukewarm water, it'll stay so for nearly an hour, except in peak winter. It also has a separate base, so if you choose to move the kettle around, you can without having to lug the wire too. The lid also doesn't snap shut the instant you let it go, which is a minor detail, but an important one to me!

Morphy Richards InstaCook

I prefer using a Morphy Richards kettle, mainly because it has been there in my house for ages and has never given us any trouble. In fact, it travelled with me to Ahmedabad for my three-year-long hostel life and was a great life-saver. I have even made Maggi and boiled eggs, etc. in it. It's extremely multi-purpose! There are other benefits to it too, it's a cordless design, has a 1 l capacity, and has an auto cutoff and dry boil protection, which is what makes boiling eggs in it a lot easier. It also comes with a steaming basket! I am certain there are many other brands in the market that are possibly equivalent to Morphy Richards and are possibly cheaper too, but it's just that this brand has always had a good name and can be trusted.

It's transparent, very sturdy, and extremely efficient, plus it looks aesthetic too. I would say it's the perfect addition to your kitchen counter. And it's 1.8 litres, which I believe is the highest capacity you can get on an electric kettle. And the watts are high too (2000W), so it heats water pretty quickly. It's a cordless design as it has a power base, an LED light that lights up when the water is heating, and the kettle has an auto shutoff. I absolutely love it, it's so durable!

Prestige PKTS 0.5 Electric Kettle

Prestige PKTS 0.5 Electric Kettle 500ml

Prestige PKTS 0.5 Electric Kettle 500ml

₹1695

I trust the brand, so I'd recommend Prestige. It's a very basic electric kettle but it does the job. I didn't need a big one, so 500 ml capacity was quite efficient. But because of its compact size, it's very portable and I've even travelled with it. Plus, it has a wide mouth, so it makes cleaning quite easy. The body of the kettle is stainless steel, so it looks elegant but it has a cool-touch handle and lid, so you don't have to worry about burns.

Philips Electric Kettle

Philips HD9306/06 1.5-Litre Electric Kettle

₹2695

Philips is a trusted brand for electronics, even though their products are relatively pricier. But, they are durable and I've been using this for several years now. I love that it's very safe to use around the house, and is also lightweight, so it's easy to carry when I'm traveling. It's very easy to clean because the lid stays open, as it's hinged. And, the cord is medium-sized so you can easily place the kettle on the counter and use it, plus it has a cord winder, so you can pack it and store it easily too. I've used it for many, many years. So, I would tell anyone to buy this! The electric kettle has added benefits. It heats up quickly thanks to 1800W performance and has a capacity of 1.5 litres.

Prestige Electric Kettle PKOSS

Prestige Electric Kettle PKOSS - 1500W

Prestige Electric Kettle PKOSS - 1500W

₹1445

I bought this when I moved out of my parent's house because it was the #1 Bestseller on Amazon at the time. Prestige is a trusted brand, and it's been good to me. It's 1.5 l so it has a good capacity, the heating performance is good (1500W) and it barely takes a minute or two for water to boil. Plus, it's cordless and has a power deck, so I can move it around in the kitchen easily and wire the cord in. The design is pretty standard, it's steel and black, so I don't mind it. And, it automatically shuts off, which is great in case I forget to turn it off and the house won't burn down.

Borosil Eva Cooltouch Electric Kettle

Borosil Eva Cooltouch Electric Kettle

₹1890

It's a cool touch kettle, that's mainly why I like it. So, it basically has a double wall and the outer body doesn't heat up to a point where you'll burn yourself if you touch it. Its capacity is small, so it's compact and travel-friendly. But I like it because it heats water very quickly. It has a deck to sit on, so the kettle itself is cordless and it automatically shuts off. Design-wise also, it's very cool, much better-looking than those steel kettles

Prestige Classic Kettle PCKS

Prestige Classic Kettle PCKS 0.7 Litres

Prestige Classic Kettle PCKS 0.7 Litres

₹1695

I was mostly fascinated by the design. It's very teapot-like at the stout, it's cute. But I bought it because it's Prestige and that's a trusted brand. It's a small kettle, but heats up water too quickly, so I guess the heating is great (1350W). The only issue is that the lid is not insulted, so you have to just hold it by the handle otherwise you'll get a burn.
