Indian music as an art form has evolved, and flourished because of the contributions of the countless musical exponents, who have dedicated their lives in shaping its rich legacy. Amongst them are pioneering female musicians who defied societal norms, and have paved the way for other women classical music artists.
This one-of-a-kind tribute by Kaushiki Chakraborty celebrates six legendary women who redefined Indian classical and semi-classical music. From Gauhar Jan, the OG ‘Gramophone Girl,’ to the devotional voice of M.S. Subbulakshmi, and the queen of ghazals, Begum Akhtar —this is a celebration of their music, legacy, and the bold paths they paved.
Featuring a mix of classic hits and new compositions, this event is backed by an incredible ensemble of musicians,including Shom Chatterjee (composer and conductor), Murad Ali (sarangi), Ojas Adhiya (tabla), Ninad Mulaokar (flute), Jyotirmoy Bannerjee (harmonium), Sridar Parthasarathy (mridangam & kanjira), Rahul Wadhwani (piano), Kaushiki Joglekar (keyboard), Rhythm Shaw (guitar), Ralph Menezes (bass guitar), and Vaibhav Wavikar (drums), and Mehtab Ali Niyazi (sitar). Tying it all together is Kathak artist Bhakti Deshpande, whose performance will add a visual storytelling element to this one- of -a kind evening.
