Rich cultural blends, culinary delicacies, and architectural and technological marvels are all things that are all too abundant in Singapore. Visiting Singapore is like playing witness to a modern city built keeping in mind their citizen’s ease of access, and also the need for peaceful corners when they need to be more in touch with nature. They’re rich in natural beauty, artistic flair, and also know how to throw a party. It’s a popular destination for tourists year-round, and we’re sure the city is on your bucket list also.

If a vacation is on your radar, bookmark this city guide that’s been specially curated by Team LBB. Inspired by our travels to the city, we’re here to take you through what’s there to do, see, eat and shop while you’re in Singapore.

Activities To Try

Well, let’s just start by saying that there's no shortage of fun things to try out in Singapore. Make Sentosa Island your first stop while you’re in the city because it has almost everything there’s to do under the sun in one place, especially if your group includes kids (or kid-like adults!). Try out iFly Singapore, an indoor skydiving tunnel that is genuinely like free-falling from the sky, perfect for adrenaline junkies. Shark-watching at the S.E.A. Aquarium is something you can enjoy with your fam, followed by the Zipline at the Mega Adventure Park where you zip through lush jungles and white beaches.

If you catch yourself craving a beach day, take a stroll down the Sentosa coastline to catch some waves and play outdoor games. You can also beat the heat of a sunny day with a trip to the Adventure Cove Waterpark! Feel the rush as you zip down thrilling water slides, then go with the flow as you float down Adventure River and bring that adrenaline down. Finally, be sure to set aside a full day to spend at the famous Universal Studios Singapore, where we recommend you get on the Rollercoaster, and the Transformers’ themed VR ride.

Sights To See

Your Singapore trip might feel incomplete if you do not visit these must-see spots! First things first, head to Marina Bay to catch a glimpse of Singapore’s most majestic mythical icon, the Merlion. We should mention, it’s best to visit this spot at night. That way you can catch the mesmerizing light and water show on the bay with the statue standing tall in the background. Better yet, go up the Sands SkyPark Observation Deck and get yourself a bird’s eye view of the bay. It’s breathtaking! Right there on Marina Bay, you’ll also find the grand ArtScience Museum with various artistic-science exhibits. And if you are a tech junkie, pay a special visit to the Future World to explore installations that feature state-of-the-art technology. As your final stop on the bay, check out the Singapore Flyer as it makes for a stunning backdrop for those Instagram pictures and for a beautiful view if you decide to take a ride on it.

Taking a stroll on the OCBC Skyway, right through the soaring architecture and pristine groves that make up the mesmerizing Gardens by the Bay, is a must to check off your list. It’s a sanctuary for nature lovers who find themselves in this high-tech city with sky high buildings and futuristic vibes. And the super cute pastel-coloured Peranakan houses on Koon Seng Road make for a brilliant insight into the traditional architecture and double as the perfect setting possible for you to pose in front of.

Culture To Explore

Singapore is a city driven by passion, an energy that flows through the murals on the walls and the artists busking in the streets. Visit The Victoria Theatre & Victoria Concert Hall, which is home to captivating music and old-timey architecture. But in case you’re into something more laid back, you can catch an outdoor cultural performance at Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay. It’s an open stage where the locals gather every evening to enjoy live music, dance and theater performances.

Chinatown sets you up for a cultural experience as you’re surrounded by authentic food, art and street shopping. As you take a stroll through the lanes, you’ll find the locals and oldies playing chess matches while the crowds play audience to it. You’re welcome to challenge them to a friendly game, but better be warned, they’re pros! If you’re a fan of the comic series, there’s an entire store in Chinatown dedicated to Tintin, you wouldn’t want to miss out on that.

Finally, if you feel a little homesick in the midst of all this, you can take to the bustling streets of Little India. You could take a walking tour or just explore on your own, trying out a new rendition of food, fashion and fragments of home.

Delicacies To Eat

Of course, what's a city without its food? Singapore’s culinary landscape is like a foodie’s dream come to life with endless options ranging from fine dining experiences to street style treats. You’ll find food that fulfills your cravings and fits your budget as you go around trying out authentic Chinese, Malay and Indian-influenced food. Dedicate a full day to indulging in the local delicacies. Start off with a The Roti Prata breakfast at Casuarina Curry, followed by a Laksa lunch at the Michelin-star Katong Laksa and end your day on a high note with some delicious Char Kway Teow and other hawker fare at Old Airport Road Food Centre.

Singapore is also famous for having really out-of-the-box dining experiences. Lunch at ANDSOFORTH is pretty bizarre as it gives you a taste of theater with your meal. Book yourself a table at NOX Dine in the Dark, where the room is pitch black and your senses are heightened without sight to rely on. An underwater dream awaits you at the Ocean Restaurant with a floor to ceiling panel glass view of the oceanarium. To take your day up a notch, enjoy the bites and sights at Sky Dining in the Singapore Flyer but make sure to book in advance for those delicious delicacies with a view.

Places To Shop

Finally, coming to the part where you bring home something with you in addition to loads of memories, shopping in Singapore is an experience in itself. Have fun walking around the Bugis Street Market with your friends or family. Here, you can find the trendiest apparel and a few traditional textile stores where you can get your very own baju kurung, which is the traditional dress of Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia.

To explore the other end of this, head to Orchard Road for a luxury shopping experience at the Design Orchard and you will find all the high-street brands featuring the latest in Singaporean fashion and lifestyle. Drop by the Instagram-worthy Haji Lane for some Indie vibe stores or the Queensway Shopping Centre for factory outlets of all the big brands you would see at Orchard.

A pro tip is to keep a lookout for street shops and craft workshops because those hold treasures you won’t find in the commercial spaces. These pop-ups are home to so much cultural memorabilia to bag and souvenirs to gift our loved ones when we get back.
