The Kylin Experience in GK N-Block has a new addition on their terrace. Called Kai Bar, this retro Oriental terrace is switching things up with a cocktail menu that’ll keep us going back and baos whose taste will linger in our hearts for a long time.

We Bao Down To This

The whole Oriental look with the wall art, a bright red chandelier and the framed artworks at once strike you as soothing. It could have passed off as a very tasteful, art-enthusiast’s drawing room, if it wasn’t for the cocktails that magically kept appearing as the night progressed. One of things we liked was the lounge-y music in the background, that was striking enough to catch our attention, but never came in the way of conversation {so important for a date, right?}.

Their menu is mix of Japanese, Chinese and Thai. This was such a respite for our done-with-pub-food palate that we utterly devoured our potstickers, pork bao, sushi and salad. In short, almost everything that we tried.

Quinoa on a bed of lettuce was an intriguing mix of crunchy nuts, mushy avocados and a sweet ginger-y dressing, making this a starter with a personality. The open-pork baos with grilled stuffing and Hoisin sauce were grilled to perfection. Spicy Salmon Roll {sushi} was a hearty helping, and quite fresh. The accompanying wasabi and pickled ginger, though, were a little mild for our taste.

We’ve got to say, though, that the stars of the evening were really the cocktails. Smoke and Mirrors had Smokey Laphroaig with ginger and lime that perfectly balanced the refreshing burst from the lime with the smokiness of the whisky. Next up was Kafka on the shore, that combined sake with fermented blueberry juice… A match made in a pro kitchen. We’ve heard great things about Chilli Freak Margarita. So, that’s on our radar for the next time.

So, We're Saying...

The location is perfect if you like a bit of quiet and hate the honking mess that is now an inherent part of M block’s personality. From the small balcony, you get a panoramic view of the entire area, with its sparkly signboards and glimpses of the hustle in the market square downstairs.

P.S. Make sure you pick from the signature cocktail menu.
