What Is It?

Whoever said  ‘girls don’t fight’, hasn’t heard of the countless women who have been bringing tremendous change in our society. And, acknowledging these stories and assuring that #GirlsDontFight, Reebok recently held the #FitToFightAwards, 2017 where extraordinary women and girls from various fields were felicitated by brand ambassadors Kangana Ranaut, Shahid Kapoor and Malaika Arora. If you are looking for some inspiration, these stories will surely give your new year a great start.

Chhavi Rajawat – Sarpanch

When a small village – Soda {just 60 km from Jaipur} was declared the most backward area by the government, Chavvi Rajawat, who belonged to it, decided to do something about it. An MBA graduate from Pune, and with an experience of working with organizations like the Times of India and Airtel, she left her plum job and chose to use her skills to bring a change to her village. She is now the youngest person to hold the office of Sarpanch {village head} and continuously strives to make the life of those around her better.

Priya Prakash - HealthSetGo!

Priya runs an NGO called HealthSetGo which aims at establishing India’s largest health network for schools. The idea is very simple, if a child inculcates good eating habits in school, he/she keeps it up for life. So, the idea of a healthy future starts from school, and that’s exactly what HealthSetGo aims to achieve. So far, they have impacted the life of more than 20,000 students across India.

Chandni – Rag Picker To Running An NGO

Having once been a Rag-picker at an age of 7, Chandi today heads an NGO, is the editor of a newspaper called the Balaknama, and has been instrumental in changing the lives of thousands of street kids. She has worked with UNCRC and CRY and started education centers to provide basic education for street kids. Her story is really worthy of Reebok’s #FitToFightAward.

Aarti Kanwar - Education For All

What were you doing when you were 13? Certainly not mobilizing your village to assure education rights for all the children in your vicinity. Well, for Aarti Kanwar, who belongs to Alwar in Rajasthan, the idea of casteism, very prevalent in that region bothered her to an extent that she decided to do something about it. Today, thanks to her, all 96 children in her village are enrolled in school and are looking at a promising future. Time to get inspired and commit yourself to a good cause, because if a 13-year-old can bring such a change, so can we.

Lalita Duhariya - Fighting Discrimination

An idea can change your life or an entire village. Lalita took the idea of feasting together to a whole new level. Her village was writ with the issue of discrimination and untouchability, but she decided that if people can eat together, they can live together as well. So, to fight the issues plaguing her part of the world, she took advantage of her village feasting together and started Bal Mitra Gram, which mobilises children and youth to deal with the issue.

Payal Jangid - Leader Of Child Parliament

Being born in a poor family in a small village in Rajasthan, Payal already had the odds stacked against her. But, instead of giving in to the whims of society, she showed resilience and stood to fight the issue of child rights. Today, she is the leader of the child parliament in her village, and works towards educating both the children and adults about the issues of child marriage and child labour. For her unrelenting spirit, she was awarded the #FitToFightAward.

Rani Laxmi – The Internet Didi

Affectionately called the Internet Didi, Rani Laxmi is using the internet to impart education to children and women in her village. Taking advantage of the Internet Saathi program run by Google, Laxmi Rani has introduced over 1,100 people to the internet and has managed to open the world to them. She still teaches kids under a tree where she gets connectivity. A real #FitToFight inspiration, Rani Laxmi is an inspiration to all.
