What Makes It Awesome

The Aahvaan Project, a Delhi-based folk music and storytelling project by Vedi Sinha, is coming up with its online folk music classes this June and we are beyond excited. Vedi’s is one of the most powerful voices we’ve ever heard and it is almost impossible to not have goosebumps when she sings (oh, how we wish we could attend her performance soon).

The Aahvaan Project started in 2016 and is a result of Vedi’s extensive travel across Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, researching the folk traditions in these places. Ask her what the project is about and Vedi tells us, “As children, we were taught Kabir’s dohas and the concept of oneness. But amidst the rigmarole of life, we forgot these ideas. With The Aahvaan Project, we aim to promote the philosophy of love, humanity, and kindness through everyday stories and really, un-learn.” A proper look at the project’s Instagram feed (@theaahvaanproject) and we know what she’s talking about.

These online folk music classes, then, will hone your music skills, help you understand the historical and philosophical context of these traditions, and contextualise them in today’s world. There’ll be loads of stories, literature, and a great amount of honest folk singing. The classes will run for 8 weeks, with 3 sessions each week, in groups of 4-6, and each session will be worth INR 900. You can register through Instagram DMs or by dropping a mail on the attached email ID.
