There are so many parents and friends of mine who are struggling to entertain their kids during this time of lockdown. So I have got some easy plants to grow with your everyday kitchen items in which you can engage your kids/ husbands as well.
Wheat Grass. ( Gehu ke jaawre)
Wheat grass juice s very healthy for boosting immunity, for people with diabetes , people suffering from digestive problems. So one shot of this juice in morning can do wonders for your family.
How to grow wheat grass at home:
STEP 1: Source wheat seeds either online or from local shop
STEP 2: Soak a handful of wheat seeds in water overnight.
STEP 3: Take a pot with compost, if you do not have a pot you can use the disposable plastic box container. Spread the seeds in an even layer across top of the compost.
STEP 4 : Cover the seeds with more compost , spray some water.
STEP 5: Keep it in well sunlight area.
STEP 6: Harvest the wheat grass once it ‘splits’. Once the shoots are mature , a second blade of grass will begin growing out of first shoot. This is called splitting. At this point the grass should be about 6 inches tall.
POINTERS: It take 9 to 10 days for wheat grass to harvest.
If you do not have compost, you can also grow the same using a tissue paper.
Just put a layer of tissue paper in a container, spray it with water. Put the soaked seeds on top of the tissue paper and then cover the same with another layer of tissue paper. Spray some more water .
To make the juice, cut the wheat grass once it harvest, wash it and then out through the juicer.
The juice is ready to consume.
Coriander seeds ( Dhania seeds ) & Fenugreek seeds ( Methi seeds )
STEP 1 : Pound the coriander seeds so that the hard outer shell comes out, for methi seeds this step is not required.
STEP 2 : Take a 3-4 inch deep pot with compost. Spread the coriander seeds and methi seeds in two pots respectively.
STEP 3 : Cover the seeds with more compost, spread some water.
STEP 4: Keep the pot in well sunlight area.
STEP 5: The coriander and fenugreek seeds will germinate in 5-7 days. It should be ready to use and eat in 10 days.
So guys do try one of these ideas with your kids, These do not take more than 5 to 7 days so you can show your kids the progress which is made . Happy gardening!!!!
