Five hours from Delhi and a short drive from the Kaladhungi Chauraha through heavily wooded Sal forests lies a vast, fertile farm-scape with layers of Kumaon hills on the horizon. Nestled in this postcard-ready vista is Foothills Himalaya.
Foothills Himalaya For Jungle Treks And Winter-Chilling
Shortcut
The Vibe
We’ve all drawn that picture when we were kids; a cottage flanked by a fence, with pets, fruit trees and a sunrise {or sunset} behind a backdrop of mountains. Here, you will find your childhood drawings come to life and more; sun-drying tomatoes, billowing white sheets, friendly gorgeous dogs, a hammock and a vegetable patch with fresh organic produce that ends up on the table with every delicious meal!
The Digs
The Shergills, who live in this escape, are passionate about art, music, food and life at large. All the spaces have been thoughtfully and thriftily designed. The beds in the cottages are made with leftover scaffolding wood, they are placed under photographs of the local tigers {and when you are shown your room, you are also told a little story about each of them} The best thing about the cottage we stayed in was the insulated walls that kept us snug from the extreme temperatures we had just escaped.
The Plan
From picnics by the river, jungle walks that lead to serene waterfalls to simply lying on a hammock all day, to treks, camping, jeep tours to Corbett or guided bike tours across Uttarakhand all the way up to Munsiari; there’s something for every level of leisure and adventure.
The Deets
Foothills Himalaya is way better than a home away from home because of the lovely hosts who provide and share their love and abode with everyone who needs quick, restful respite from the city that is.
