Back from when they first opened, Tres, was a game changer. They were pioneers in a gourmet fine dining experience that was outside of a hotel yet had all the frills! It wasn’t just the menu or the ambiance, it was the dynamic duo of Chefs Jatin and Julia, their combined culinary prowess wowed every guest and made them patrons for life. Today, with a whole new address, little has changed with the Tres experience, it still remains extraordinary, it still makes every guest feel special and every meal feel like a celebration. As much as I miss going there, they have been fast movers in the ‘new normal’ with the ‘Tres Dining at Home’ initiative and I am so happy to report that the food is as good, as innovative and as enjoyable as I remember it. With a dedicated delivery menu, a lot of thought has gone into developing dishes conducive to delivery and the packaging is well thought out too.
It is evident that the ingredients are premium without which dishes like the Pancetta, the Pork Belly and Morel, Shiitake and Cep Risotto won’t really work out as well as they do. With several options for starters, mains, flatbreads, burgers and desserts, this is a menu you can order from again and again, in fact, we were busy deciding what to eat next while we were eating what we had ordered! We started with the Tres Special Fish and Chips, two large pieces of firm white fish, perfectly coated and fried served with a homemade Gribiche and French fries. For the mains, the choices were way too many and way too wonderful but we settled on the Chorizo and Pork Sandwich which came moist yet intact, robustly spiced with chorizo and juicy because of the pork sausage, cheese and onions, our next one is going to be the Pressed Pork Belly sandwich for sure! Speaking of cheese, the 3 Cheese with Camembert Flatbread is unmissable, it’s every cheese lover’s dream come true. Despite how filling this was, I’m glad we had space for the 6 oz. Tenderloin Burger, possibly one of the finest burgers we have ever ordered home. Hearty, flavoursome, perfectly seared, this burger was a giant and yet held together while we demolished it, this is highly recommended for meat lovers. Since we have a vegetarian in the family, we chose the Baked Cheesy Winter Vegetable Lasagna, not an easy dish to pack and ship out but they did a fine job of it, just a quick blitz in the microwave is all it took to make this dish, warm, fragrant and cheesy. We finished our feast with their Philly Baked Cheesecake that had a berry compote topping, light and rich at the same time, fluffy and sweet salty, this one shall be repeated again, very soon.
With a menu as big as the one Tres has, you can plan your next meal from them very quickly, I’m waiting to try the Goat Cheese and Parma Ham Flatbread, the Crispy Chicken Leg Burger, the Slow Braised Leg of Lamb and the Spinach and Hazelnut Ravioli. This is perhaps the best way to have a gourmet experience in the comfort for your own home, add a bottle of wine from your bar and this could be the finest date night anyone could have at home.
