The new normal still seems restrictive but it feels great to step out. We still don't have to waste time lounging in airports, masked up and waiting so we decided to focus on road trips. Given how genuinely state of the art the new highway top Agra is, we chose Agra as destination 1 to start out sojourns. Three hours of painless travel in the comfort of our own car and voila, we were at the City of Love. We decided to check into the Taj Hotels & Convention Centre in the heart of the city. Needless to say, you can't go wrong with a Taj property and this choice was perfect for us. First things first, the size of the room was incredible for the price points, that in itself is such a great start to a mini vacation. In classic Taj style hospitality, our check was smooth and quick, very warm and gracious.
The deluxe rooms have a mini sit out with a separate television, couch, minibar and an attached toilet, the room has the option of a double bed or twin beds with a surprisingly big washroom. The bed is superbly comfortable (that’s a big plus for me!) and the interiors are classic yet modern. When it comes to F&B, they have a spiffy tea lounge just by the lobby, a great place to carry a book and relax over a cuppa, follow that up with a massive buffet lunch at the all-day dining called Palato, then a nap will be due for sure. Once you’re up, you can choose to either chill at the pool and have a quick workout at the gym to prep for an evening at their rooftop bar, Infini. We were particularly intrigued by Infini because there aren’t that many rooftop bars of this calibre in Agra, with this kind of menu, cocktails and wine list, we have this property on our repeat list. It’s best to stay 2-3 days to actually relax, soak in the sights and the experience of Taj Agra, they have a lovely spa and going back to the food (which is so important at any holiday), don’t miss the breakfast at Palato. From eggs on order to an array of cereals etc. the best part is how they incorporate local cuisine into the first meal of the day, we ate only alu puri every morning but then vacations are meant for indulgence. The next night, skip the rooftop bar and head to the Liquid Lounge, pitched as one of the finest bars in the city, I was pleasantly surprised by their wine and single malt selection, great place to know back a few before an indulgent dinner. You can choose a la carte as well but the buffet is so luxurious and the spread is so extensive, makes sense to just go ahead and binge,
They have 239 rooms and 12 suites, if you’re going as a family, it’s a good idea to check out the Superior Room that’s ideal for 4 guests. Though the property is hugely popular for weddings and corporate events, it’s amazing for a weekend stay because of its central location, good food and stellar service.
