Gaatha, a project that began as a recording of the erosion of Indian crafts, has now become an online store and blog that aims at helping craftsmen reach a wider audience, while giving patrons the most amazing catalogue of apparel and decor items.
Gaatha: Revealing the Legends Behind Traditional Crafts

The story behind the legend
Gaatha, now an online store and blog, began as an initiative by the students and alumni of National Institute of Design {NID}. This is an online repository of stories, folklore and myths associated with crafts and their creators. We especially love the blog because this is where you get to learn about the hands and heads that have laboured on the products that you buy.
Crafty piece of art
What Gaatha provides us with, and what makes it so different, is the craft story that comes along with any product. You not only get some exquisite sarees, stationery, T-shirts, stoles and paintings, but you also directly invest in a better rural and artisan economy. Coming in straight from the workshop, ajrakh and dabu apparel, appliqué upholstery and handloom weaves are just some of what you can look forward to getting your hands on.
Buying with a conscience
Not to forget gaamthi printed stationery, batik and kutch metal bells; Gaatha also curates some excellent labels that specialise in artisanal work. They deliver across the world. In fact, there’s so much happening on their website that it is best to go click on the link. We absolutely love the rustic feel of their products and they are totally worth a peek.
