A touch of Ginger is just what's needed to further spice up the red hot Indian Gin market. And what better to supply it than Cotswolds Ginger Gin, priced in Mumbai at an eye-popping INR 12,900 for a 500 ml bottle, making it clearly the most expensive gin yet to be sold in India.
The Cotwsolds Distillery is located in the Cotswolds region of England, a place of outstanding natural beauty. Started in 2014, it earned its early spurs with its award-winning range of single malt whiskies.
The flagship of their Gin range is the Cotswolds Dry Gin, a London Dry Gin with an aromatic twist. It’s this Gin that forms the base of the Ginger Gin. The Dry Gin is first distilled to 83% ABV (alcohol by volume) and then casked at 65% ABV, the gin going into the same casks as their award-winning whisky, a mix of first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels and red wine casks (shaved, toasted and re-charred).
After spending 3 months in the casks fresh sweet Valencian orange peel and candied root ginger is added to the matured Gin. These soak in the Gin for several weeks. A touch of honey is added to sweeten it and the Gin is then bottled at 46% ABV.
With notes of warm honey, spicy ginger and piney juniper, this spirited gin has an exceptional depth of flavour.
Cotswolds Gins are represented in India by The Vault Fine Spirits.
