Like many other people before us, we’re fans of the Japanese. They’re the masters of basically everything, and if you’ve had sushi and wasabi nuts, you know their cuisine is a force to reckon with. So when we discovered an authentic Japanese gourmet store, we were over the moon.

Wakaba, as it’s called, is a store that rose to provide the Japanese community in the area products from their homeland, and consequently, also to the rest of us. They house a large variety of products – from household goods from Tokyo, to stationery by Midori and even handmade pottery from Kyoto! They also have an in-house bakery that whips up treats on the daily, and a cafe for when you need to rest your feet. It’s modelled after traditional Japanese seating, even!

If that wasn’t enough to make us go gaga, they’ll also place orders for types of seafood, fruits and vegetables {to name a few} upon request. Most of their food, even though it’s imported, is organic, and they provide frozen packages of meats from Japan, as well as from different parts of Europe. That’s an impressive range, if you ask us.

That’s what we love about Delhi. There are pockets where you can lose yourself in another world, and we’re pegging this as one of them.

Notes in our Little Black Book |

Delhi, as we all know, is a diverse melting pot of culture. And here, in the heart of the Japanese community sits Wakaba, a gourmet grocery store offering up authentic Japanese products, from food, to homeware and meats from Japan and parts of Europe. There’s a Japanese style cafe and a bakery to boot. That about covers our Japanese food fantasies. They also do custom imports on confirmed orders. We’re bowled over.
