The International Museum Expo 2023

What Makes It Awesome?

For those who love history, there’s no better place to be than Delhi. No matter where you go, every part of the city is brimming with a history of its own, with countless forts, monuments, historic old districts and of course, museums. Adding to all these options for museum goers in the city, the Indian Ministry of Culture has come up with a one-of-its-kind International Museum Expo, bringing together the best of museums and history all under one roof!

Celebrating the 47th International Museum Day, the expo launches on 18 May, as part of the second phase of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. This is going to be the first ever International Museum Expo, and will be inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. Some of the primary elements of the expo will be the Exhibition of Star Objects, Techno Mela, Conservation Lab, Cultural Programs & a lot more.

The expo would feature seven masterclasses & eleven panel discussions with over seventy-five subject matter experts from all over the world, on topics such as Making Of A Museum, Museums in Metaverse etc. These are a must attend if you’re someone who’s into the workings of museums and archiving. With the core theme of ‘Museums, Sustainability, and Well Being’, the event will see a great mix of people, right from government officials to museum professionals to academicians and students.

The expo also brings the traditional experience of visiting a museum, with multiple exhibitions that are curated by experts around various themes. There’s the Exhibition of Star Objects, for instance, which showcases 75 artifacts from over 25 museums around the country. For those who are into art and art history, the Exhibition of Ragamala Paintings audio-visual digital exhibition is one that we recommend. What makes it even cooler is that each painting in the exhibition has an addition of the corresponding audio raag embedded in it, to enhance the visual experience of the artwork with the auditory experience of classical Indian music, bringing out the best of art through technological innovation!

Speaking of tech, the expo also has a first-of-its-kind ‘Techno Mela’, which would showcase the best of technologies being used in Museums from all over the world. Apart from these, the Techno Mela also includes showcases of interesting museum projects that are coming up soon, such as the Lothal Maritime Heritage Complex, Indian Navy Museums, and the Police Memorial Museum.

The expo will also have an exciting virtual walkthrough glimpse of the upcoming Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum, which will depict the story of India's 5000 year old civilizational culture. And what’s more is that the Ministry in collaboration with the Chhatrapati Shivaji  Maharaj Vaastu Sangrahalaya in Mumbai, has also created a Museum on Wheels that will be flagged off at the event & this bus installation will go all around Delhi-NCR to bring museums to people.

With over 1200 museums participating & over 500 books on each & every aspect of museums, this expo will truly bring together the best of art, history and technology. The International Museum Expo is one place we’d definitely recommend you to visit!
