Just a few steps away from each other, opposite the Hari Nagar bus depot, are two cane furniture shops that stock up on affordable cane, bamboo and wooden furniture. One of them’s even open to sharing product catalogues on email while the other is open to coordinating on WhatsApp.

Our search for budget home decor always lands us at the nearest cane shop. The timeless quality about cane and bamboo, coupled with the fact that it’s so easy to move around and maintain, has made it a constant for us. This is why, we were happy to find Kavya Cane Furniture Shop and its neighbour that just goes by the name Cane Furniture around Janakpuri. Here, you’ll find everything from lawn chairs and swing seats to couches, dining tables, lamps, sofa sets, muddahs, coffee tables and the like.

They usually set up shop around 11:30am, and are open 7 days a week. We were also happy to realise that both of these guys were very happy to show us around, answer our many questions, and be open to delivering all across the city. In fact, if you pay them a little advance to get your customised orders ready, they’ll even coordinate on Whatsapp if, say, you changed your mind about the colour of the varnish, or wanted a little design element added as an afterthought.

The only bummer is that the prices aren’t exactly throwaway, but it’s worth making a trip if you’re looking at sturdier stuff and want to keep your options between wood, bamboo and cane, open. On the bright side, they offer a 10-15% discount to everyone. A pair of chairs start at INR 2,500 while the 5-seater sofa sets can go up to 25k. The small, swing chairs can be bought for as low as INR 3.5k and this is exactly what we’re buying for those rainy evenings spent in the balcony.

Kavya isn’t as old as his few-steps-down neighbour, but has a larger variety across categories. However, if you’re specifically looking for more formal, drawing room stuff {sofas and tables}, the latter is a better bet.
