Megu

For an authentic Japanese cuisine experience that's extremely luxurious, Megu is the place to be in Delhi. The dramatic ambiance of the place with the crystal Buddha statue in the centre sets the calming yet moody vibe of the place reminding us of one of those snazzy Japanese bars in Soho in NYC. The food is what sets the place apart, Megu brings you dishes prepared using genuine Japanese ingredients, which are served with finesse, with each bite which is like a burst of flavour in your mouth. Their sushii-sashimi staples are especially nice so do order when you visit.

Kampai

Kampai nestled in the heart of Aerocity has quite an extensive menu that leaves you amazed with the variety it has to offer. If your weekend plans call for lots of sushi and gourmet cocktails, then definitely check this place out! The interiors are beautifully done with cherry blossoms dangling from the roof and traditional Japanese portraits adorning the walls. Their sushi platter with thirty pieces of sushi is a delight to tuck into alongside delectable cocktail concoctions. They also have other pan-asian food options available (the dim sums are particularly delicious) in case you want to give Japanese a miss.

Pro-tip: Visit the place during the day and opt for their unlimited sushi, dim sum and bao lunch priced at INR 1,495 (plus taxes).

Adrift Kaya

The food menu leaves you gob-smacked with what all it has to offer, the Fried Chicken Karaage and Hinoki Scented Black Cod are our personal favourites. This isn't your usual sushi place, it is an izakaya-inspired (translates to 'stay-drink-place' in Japanese) upbeat restaurant-bar where you can grab a drink, settle in, and get comfortable while gorging on appetising Japanese food.

Harajuku Tokyo Cafe

No Delhiite needs an introduction to Harajuku Tokyo Cafe, the cute pink cafe chain serving yummy boba tea and other Japanese street-style delicacies with their main outlet in Select City Walk. The ambiance of the place is super adorable with a Sakura tree, booth-style seating, and a live baking station along with a cutesy signature claw machine, manga comics, and a Japanese street mural. What we love the most is that they've nailed the whole street-style food, with of course cafe the desserts reigning. Pull up for wholesome Japanese food, retro-cool vibes, and whole lotta memories.

Yum Yum Cha

For us, weekends are all about heading to Yum Yum Cha and catching up with friends while gorging on Yum Yum Cha's sushi, stone pot bowl and mochi that always hit the right spot. We can even go as far as to say that Yum Yum Cha is our comfort food spot that never disappoints and always manages to put a smile on our faces with each sushi piece we savour. If you are a sushi fan in Delhi and haven't tried Yum Yum Cha, are you even a sushi fan?

Mensho Tokyo

The brainchild of Chef Tomoharu Shono, who opened his first restaurant in Tokyo back in 2005, Mensho Tokyo is an authentic Japanese restaurant with two outlets (in GK2 and Gurugram) serving the best ramen in Delhi. Sushi is absent from the menu since ramen is the star here. Their udon noodles are handmade to make your ramen experience even better. What sets their ramen apart is that besides the typical clear broth, Mensho makes a rich creamy broth with almond milk; it lends a nutty note to an already umami-packed bowl. And secondly, the restaurant gives you the choice of soup-less ramen or mazesoba. Apart from ramen, their chicken sandos and potato salad are the next best things to try from the menu.

Sukiya Tokyo Bowls

If you are looking for affordable Japanese food that doesn't hurt the pocket but is still delicious then check out the newly opened Sukiya Tokyo Bowls in Nehru Place that serves dishes starting at INR 100. Their ramen bowls start at INR 269 and have quite a few variants. The place looks like one of those Japanese food spots in anime with minimal interiors and smiling staff that always greets you with warmth. The food is as good as it gets within the price range so don't expect gastronomical wonders here but nevertheless, a great place to head to if you are craving simple ramen or a first-timer tasting ramen who doesn't want to spend much on experimenting with food.

Kofuku

Kofuku means 'happiness' in Japanese and this place aspires to spread the very same happiness through its scrumptious food. The food is flavourful, authentic and looks super nice like those anime TV show visuals. If you wish to try something fun, don't think twice and order their Hambagu which is a Japanese gourmet burger with a succulent patty, rich demi-glace sauce and perfectly paired sides that make your meal a delectable one. Their sashimi and sushi are equally nice so try getting yourself the boat if you like. They also have a range of sake and wines available to complete your meal.

Guppy

Guppy's been around for ten years and always comes through when you are on the lookout for delicious sushi and ramen bowls. The vibe of the place has always been easy, laidback, but peppy enough to put you into the weekend mood. While you are at it, do not give their cocktails a miss, the 'Wasabi Way' and 'Kyoto Sour' are immensely popular among Guppy loyalists; the Guppy Bowl is the perfect accompaniment for these not so sweet concoctions.
