What Is It?

We were kind of done with people telling us that Valentine’s Day is a ‘foreign’ slash ‘Western’ concept, and thank God that someone felt our pain. In fact, a new festival that’s all about celebrating love {called Jashn-e-Ishqa} is coming to Delhi, just so we can cherish love in the way we most relate to; the desi way, if we may call it that.

Sweetly planned for Feb 16 {here’s looking at the folks who say love shouldn’t just be about a particular day}, this one-day event is The 1988 Company’s attempt at bringing together couples with lots of fun stuff like poetry, photography, painting, sufi songs and more.

Who Is It For?

Contrary to what you think, it’s not just for die-hard romantics, or those who wear their heart on their sleeve. The awesome organiser folks tell us that it’s for any kind of aashiq. With all the events planned between storytelling, painting, photography and even sufi music, we think it’s a great place to reconnect with your long-lost hobbies.

Why Should I Go For It?

Yes, it’s going to be a refreshing take on an emotion that we’ve all known so closely, but more than that, it promises to stand against everyone who thinks love belongs in the closet, or behind bars. Now that is a thought we wholeheartedly support. They even have a panel discussion around ishq just to keep things grown-up and dignified… and, not to mention, intelligent as well.

The hosts are trying to burn stereotypes to the ground, while also trying to create a safe space for couples to have a nice day {minus the typical Valentine’s Day things}.
